Hello! We did Curtains in 2019 and had a great experience.  You definitely need a strong singer for Aaron, but honestly the rest of the male singing roles are very simple as long as they can handle the few harmonies in "What Kind of Man", "The Woman's Dead" and "In the Same Boat."  The female singing ...

What is the cost of these apps?  I looked and saw that both offer In-App purchases.  Do you find that you need those or are the basic functions enough for a High School Prop and Costume Shop? Thanks, ------------------------------ Gary Hicks Atlanta GA ------------------------------

Hello, and congratulations from me as well.  That is awesome.  I agree with the other comments especially about dust collection which is a real issue.  The other suggestion I have would be to build rolling work tables that you can store common lumber under (1"x4", 2"x4").  My shop has two 8' and one ...

Hi, I'm planning to do it via Zoom in May.  My Senior Thespians are always in charge of that part of the ceremony.  They are going to make a slideshow or video featuring this year's inductees that we will show to everyone and then read out the names.  It isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing.  As ...

I want to thank everyone for the responses and creative ideas.  I was envisioning a raked stage with a built-in trap for the well, but I also like the idea of the well being off the rake upstage.   I'm getting closer to choosing this show.    Another question:  Has anyone received permission to ...

I am really struggling with a selection for our fall season.  I just read The Diviners and loved it.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this one?  Have you done it?  How did you handle the river and well scenes?  We don't have a trap. ------------------------------ Gary Hicks Atlanta GA ------- ...

Hello, I have taught Technical Theatre / Stage Craft at my school for the past 10 years.  I have one section that is combined all levels.  I have had great support from the administration to cap the class at 25 for safety and resource concerns.  I did once have a class of almost 40.  We were not able ...

Thank you for responding.  I announced the show on Saturday, and the students were excited.  I am encouraged by your story, and I am hoping our production will be just as meaningful. ------------------------------ Gary Hicks Atlanta GA ------------------------------

Hello, My team and I have chosen Big River as our musical for next year.  Before I announce it to the students and community, I was wondering if anyone else has done the show recently and had any negative community reaction to the show's themes and language.  Thanks, ------------------------------ ...

Hello, I stopped doing performances with my Drama 1 for that very reason. In the meantime, I would require them to either attend and review another event or perform a piece in class. What do you have them doing while everyone else is rehearsing the event? Is it possible that they swing a part in the ...

Hello, I am considering The Diary of Anne Frank as our fall play, and I am wondering how you have handled seemingly live animals (cats and dogs) on stage? I've had one live dog (teacup in a hamper - no problem). I once used a puppet for the cat in "The Baker's Wife," but it was a musical comedy, so ...

In Georgia, teachers must have either a Certificate in Theatre or a Certificate in Language Arts. My experience with my colleagues is that the area of certification is about 50/50. The catch is that a teacher certified in Language Arts can teach theatre but not the other way around. Having a certificate ...

Hello. I've done Pippin twice (2008 and 2014), and I approached the fire box differently both times. In 2008, we built an 8'x8' platform extension off the front of the stage (no pit in our theatre). We then put a trap door in the center and used flashing red lights and smoke from below. When the Player ...
