The first thing to do is find out what everyone else in the school charges for something similar so you are in line. For example, both our choir and band sell full color ads here. Also, athletics does in the fall/winter/spring programming. Any of these people should be happy to let you know so you ...

Our school corporation is in the process of going to an all scaled grades (based on ELs). Has any of your districts done the same? Has the EdTA looked in depth at this to help provide guidance in how to choose ELs and scale them? I am looking for resources. There seem to be many for English, math ...

Great minds think alike! I also team teach a musical theatre class which follows the PBS documentary in chronological order. We also suppliment with McLamore's Musical Theatre An Appreciation. Throughout the semester we learn songs from and dances of popular musicals by period. Love the validation ...

Hi theatre family! Yesterday, in m PLC I worked with the music chair who will be teaching a new electronic music class very soon. Seeing that this is the first new class he has ever build from scratch, he wanted to bounce some things off me (I have build a few in my days...). In our discussion, ...

I just said outloud when reading this, "Egads, I would love to do this." Followed by, "I wonder how much time it is taking?" Before I respond, I'd love to know if they have given a schedule/timeframe? Rain ------------------------------ Raenell Smith Speech, Theatre, English Teacher Clark ...

I just closed this show, and it was a wonderful expierence. This show is so flexible you can do it with any cast in any setting. It doesn't require much. I had one unit set. One table that worked as every table/desk, 5 chairs for every chair, one "dentist" chair & one fake bed. Here are a few ...

It is opening night here! In preparation for such an occasion we have been participating in and teaching many of our traditions. I often tell students about what I learn here from all of you, and today they wanted me to share this tradition with you. Every fall, teachers get a picture package from ...

I agree that fun and educational are important, but many of my drama club members enjoy the activities we do together that are not "theatre" related. They want to be with their "theatre family." So, in addition to our in-house theatre activities (productions, workshops, etc.) & a performance field trip ...

I agree she needs to do, but she also asked for a book(s), and I would like to honor that request as well. We actually took some time to do cast improv in rehearsal yesterday. I also put her in a costume. Hopefully a little bit of all of this will help! Thanks to everyone! -------- ...

Thanks. I think this might be in the direction we need. I have pulled Hagen and Meisner off the shelf this morning. Rain ------------------------------ Raenell Smith Speech, Theatre, English Teacher Clark Pleasant Community School Corporation Whiteland IN

I have a student actor who is looking for a book or other resource to help her get her confidence and stage presence back. She is extremely talented, but just as of late she is struggling. She is in her head a lot. She asked and really was looking for a book or other resource that directly addresses ...

Thank you so far for your suggestions & questions. I don't know if I have all the answers. We always perform with a live pit & I don't see that changing, but I may need accompaniment if I teach the music *gasps for a breath*. I just want to be prepared and have a good plan before I get there. I ...

As is always the case, you plan for the season or future then life throws you a curve ball! I had my season all laid out and, now, I am looking for a possible replacement musical for this spring. The wonderful news is my music/dance director and her husband will be parents, the bad news is I am not sure ...

Doesn't meet the "rap" component, but I just did All Shook Up. GREAT Elvis music. Tons of great male roles. Can make the ensemble as large as you like. Fun costumes & sets! Don't let Elvis fool you though. The music is challenging, and the story of finding yourself/self-worth/acceptance is always appropriate. ...

As I am rapidly approaching auditions for Radium Girls (p.s. VERY excited), I was curious if anyone has produced this with an "in between" casting. The script calls for 9/10 actors all roles doubled or 38 without any doubling. I would like to potentially cast 15-18 (many parts doubled...). I have ...

Quite some time ago, round stages were discussed here and someone staged they had plans for a round they put in pie shaped wedged with wheels on top of their traditional stage that was easy to move, build and store. Can someone put me in touch? I am considering building one this fall. The fact that ...

I could give you a giant list of items, but #1 is water. Access to drinking water is SO important to any theatre set up. My classroom is miles from a fountain and my auditorium/rehearsal space further (some questionable money saving costs in a remodel a few years ago...). Demand water. And good ...

Has anyone else read their copy of Teaching Theatre Spring 2016 yet? The last article on p. 41 "Why i Love Theatre Teachers" by Stephen Gregg is a must read! Stop what you are doing and read it RIGHT NOW! So, I happily found my copy in my teacher mailbox this morning after a very grueling rehearsal ...
