I've done that number a few times.  I've used large hearts cut out of styrofoam (used for housing insulation--very cheap) and they worked beautifully! ------------------------------ Ruthie Tutterow Director of Fine and Performing Arts Greensboro Day School Greensboro NC --------------------- ...

Our middle school is doing a production of Lion King, Jr. at the beginning of March.  We have a package of masks, props, and costume pieces that we are willing to sell for $1500 at the conclusion of our production.  We got them from another area group, and are adding to their collection with additional ...

Two for you--have the students say their lines quickly while throwing a ball back and forth--it gets them out of their heads.  If they mess up, they have to start again.   I also personally use an app called Script Rehearser (Android) to help me learn lines.  There is something similar for I phones ...

When I directed the show, I cast the actress for personality, not body type.  I put her in a bum roll and an Elizabethan dress, which helped her fit the description. ------------------------------ Ruthie Tutterow Director of Fine and Performing Arts Greensboro Day School Greensboro NC ------ ...

I would echo the other posting--go for something contemporary and accessible to the students. Playscripts has some wonderful options. That said, I wouldn't rule out Pride and Prejudice if you and your students are passionate about it--I produced it several years ago and it was one of my favorite shows ...

When we did the show, we used scaffoldings with a "2nd level" where our narrators were. We also used video monitors and screens (a flat screen tv for the "picture" over the bed) rather than posters, and used a combination of prerecorded videos, power point slides and live video feeds (sometimes we even ...

This has been a major focus of mine as both my technical director and I have suffered from burnout and exhaustion, but both really love the work we do and want to stay. My program has a 600 seat proscenium theatre with fly system and a fully equipped black box theatre, but no shop. The facilities are ...

There are some good suggestions here for NYC. I LOVED Pippin! Your kids will love it. Other things I've done with students that have been good--- Go to MOMA. It's great to split up in, and really prompts creative/divergent thinking. Go to the Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side http://www.tenement.org ...

I am always at a loss to be able to cast the numbers of talented students that I have in one musical, so this year we are doing two musicals! We did The Drowsy Chaperone as our main show, and are doing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as the second show because it can be done more simply in ...

Hello! If anyone is doing a production of The Drowsy Chaperone, I am looking to sell a plane and tilting Murphy Bed. The plane has a motorized propeller that can be operated via dimmer. The Murphy Bed is sturdy enough to have actors tilt in and out on the bed. We are looking to sell both for $1500, ...

I love so many--but my faves are Ragtime, Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables. I also love Chicago, but don't plan on doing that one with high school. Also loved doing Return to the Forbidden Planet! ------------------------------------------- Ruthie Tutterow Director of Fine and Performing Arts ...
