When we did the school edition most recently, we used Stage Tracks and enjoyed using it.  The first time we did the show we did have live music, but I'm sure we did not have more instruments than what you are planning.  Someone may know more than me about this, but I think you are doing fine with that ...

And it was received well in our Catholic school; needs careful direction only. -- "Art must make perceptible, and as far as possible attractive, the world of the spirit, of the invisible, of God." - Pope John Paul II (Letter to Artists, April 4, 1999) Bonnie Wilson Performing Arts ...

Did the original in 2010 and the School Edition in 2018. No real difference except some shortening of songs. This was one of the best shows we've ever done. Needed: 2-3 strong females, 1 good male tenor, a charismatic male lead (especially if there's something nerdy or cutely weird about him) and a great ...

I actually had about 25 or so in my cast for Drowsy Chaperone.  The chorus had a wonderful time.  We had maids and butlers in "Fancy Dress" and party guests who entered when all the other characters were introduced.  We had extras in "Show Off" and several monkeys and a ringmaster in "Bride's Lament." ...

Our school justifies a meals charge but does not include any participation fee, not even for costumes, unless the students want to keep them.  Our students don't always live nearby so on tech week we provide food at 3 (when they are hungriest) and snacks when they stay straight through till 8.  The administration ...

We used to use Rosebrand, but then tried Sew What Inc, a company in Rancho Dominguez, CA and they went out of their way to help us get the most for our money. Try them for a quote. https://sewwhatinc.com/company/contact-us/ ------------------------------ Bonnie Wilson Scottsdale AZ --------- ...

I do not think you can combine roles in this show; the best you can do is utilize some of the smaller bit parts for the detectives at the end. Does your school allow you to have faculty actors? Students love to see Faculty on stage and there are some lovely parts. Just a thought. I hesitated doing this ...

I'm responding primarily to Jake's post with a question: How does your school manage to schedule so many drama events?   We are held back from doing more because it's "too hard to fit in the schedule."  School size must make the difference, I would guess.  We have about 950 students.  How about other ...

I too am a one-person drama dept. although my husband had been a technical director so the school got two for the price of one.  Concrete stage in a cafeteria, consistently bumped for athletic banquets, treated like second-class citizens (my students' words, not mine), but I'm still here after 13 years. ...

After 13 years of doing three shows a year on a cafeteria stage, we've finally worn out the feeble fabric folding divider that we often used to separate our rehearsals from the basketball team meals or the kitchen crew, and it's time to invest in a real divider. I've searched the Forum for information ...

Has anyone done the Broadway script version of Cinderella? I'm wondering how it compares to the Enchanted version. I know the plot is different, but are there fewer roles for females as well? ------------------------------ Bonnie Wilson Scottsdale AZ ------------------------------

I have one of these students now, and I have had a blast working with him. Three musicals that worked well for his comic triple-threat skills were Urinetown as Bobby Strong (not much dancing, though) Addams Family as Gomez, and Big Fish as Edward. That show was a tour de force for him, and an amazingly ...

Our school applies the same requirements to all extracurricular activities, and our lead just lost two weeks of rehearsal. But applying the same rules puts us on even ground with athletics, like the basketball team who lost a player for an important game. The rule is 2 D's or 1 F and the student becomes ...

This question brought some amazing responses! At opening night of my first year here (2003), a freshman student suggested a ritual she had learned in middle school. We have been doing it since then. We take a bottle of water and as it is passed, each person says something that might be standing in the ...

I have frequently double cast, but I have never done it for just 2 performances. I have created a matinee cast when we've had matinees. I think this is a very difficult situation and I empathize, as I also agonize inordinately over my final decisions. Seniority would rule here, I think. This may ...

Thank you all for your wonderful responses. Especially about having strong females play males. I agree that YCTIWY is more relatable because of the physical comedy, but I'm with those who feel that TMWCTD is a funnier script when read aloud. Here's my (new) real problem. "The Man" went out as our ...

I feel so indecisive. Anyone have thoughts about doing one Kaufman and Hart show over the other? The Man who Came to Dinner just reads funnier to me and seems more interesting but a local youth theatre is pulling my best boys away and I am worried that I won't have the right male lead. I remember reading ...

It is so helpful to read these responses. I was glad to see a recommendation to award one-half of the school's point value for work done outside the school. But is there a limit to the points that can be earned? I teach at a Catholic High School with incredibly talented students who want to ...
