I am lucky to have an assistant who wears blacks and works backstage for the shows.  I dress is up (slacks, dress shirt, tie, jacket) for all evening shows, and go a bit casual for matinees (black jeans, dress shirt, tie and vest).  This allows me to work the house and lobby as needed.  Several years ...

I have taken a couple of different anti-bullying plays to our elementays. The Bully Show in pretty good. My favorite one, and the kids favorite, involves a "student" running away from bullies into the library, where bullies from literature come to life and offer to "help" her. Blackbeard etc. I of course ...

DHS has been giving Drama Letters for better than 20 years, and our criteria break into two parts, Performance and Events. Typically we have 4 shows and the Choir POPS concert that we are involved in. You must be heavily involved in 4 of the 5 shows, either Tech or performing in the shows. We have a ...

I agree with Erich, and will add this: If you have a sound company near you, use them! Ordering from the 'net is great, but having a human being that you can call to come to your sight and fix a problem is beyond value. I am fortunate to have a soundco near me, and I have a 30 year relationship with ...

Might I suggest Tintypes (MTI)? small cast (originally 5, 2 men and 3 women) each plays multiple roles in the show. I expanded it to 12 (well, actually 15, but I had 3 drop) with no problems. Great music, great parts, do not need to be super strong singers. We had a blast doing it. Orchestra is a piano ...

I use a program called SoundByte, from Black Cat Systems. It replicates the catridge rack from radio days of yore. Each sound cen be hotkeyed, linked, looped, etc. Can play multiple sounds at once. It is fast enough that you can time a phone ring, cutting the ring off mid-ring. It is $39, and is available ...

Jo, I agree with both. My suggestion is either PAR's or Fresnel's, but I would add that LED is the way to go. You probably do not have much in the way of electrical power in your gym, and LED's use very little. As an example, I have some Chauvet COLORado Tour 1 LED fresnels. They draw 27 watts ...

I produced Cinderella - Enchanted version several years ago with a high school cast and incorporated a childrens chorus into several numbers. I am not a dancer, but I choreagraphed "The Prince Is Giving A Ball." The kids (elementary and high school) had a blast, and it looked really good. While ...

One of my favorite murder mystery plays is Death By Dessert. Set in a building with two competing italian restrauants run by two competing families, the landlord is murdered (and yet narrates the story) while the audience has to figure it out. Complete farce, and great fun. Heuer publishing, hitplays.com. ...

I have taught in a traditional, daily schedule, and the every-other-day block. (Currently I have each class 74 minutes every other day). I have been on the Instructional Time Committee several years, and the single biggest comment I can make is to echo Nathan: What's key to making it work is a variety ...

Galaxy Audio makes the HSD, a headset mic. It is a dual hook, hooking over both ears, and is very stable. I have not had one fall off an actor. They are available with different plugs to connect to different transmitter packs, and sound quality is very comparable to Countryman sets. Cost is about $220 ...

You need to try AquaColor by Kryolan. This is not a creme makeup, but a powder, like the old tempra paints. A bit of water on the brush, run across the color, and onto the face. You do not layer colors, as you do with creme makeup, but rather a single layer to any spot. I have had students with extreme ...

To make real ice cubes, I would get plastic shoeboxes, fill them and freeze them. If you are going for fake cubes, I would also get plastic shoeboxes, and use white spray paint on the inside (light mist) to cloud them a bit. ------------------------------------------- Richard Shultz Derby KS ...

Start with a model rocket. Leaver the engine out. If you attach fishing line to it, and have a pivot point out over the audience, if the actor is to the side of the stage, and a techie is reeling in the line, when the actor lets go, the rocket will "fly" out over the audience. The techie needs to time ...
