I missed the chance to get a room at the hotel so decided to get a place near theatres (ROW NYC - I figured that at night I'm tired and just want to get back to my room quickly). I'd be happy to have a roommate to share costs, etc. If you're interested, let me know! ------------------------------ ...

Hey guys! I missed out on my chance to get a room at the conference hotel, so I ended up getting a room in the theatre district (so I could at least have a short distance to go to my room at night, after the show). Anyone else in the same boat? Looking for someone who might want to commute with me in ...

I'm looking forward to all of it! I'm in Sourh Carolina and we don't have a lot of local theatre specific workshops and professional development! I'm justs excited to go and be immersed in theatre stuff with theatre people for a few days and get some new ideas and inspiration to bring back to my classroom. ...

I'm trying to start some cool things at my school this year, and one thing is an awards program for my actors.  I'd like to have a special award for an ensemble member this year because I'd like to recognize the importance of being an ensemble member - much like the gypsy robe.  However, I don't know ...

I had a jr. thespian troupe at my old school that was pre-existing.  I never had to charter it, so we paid the dues at the beginning of each year and paid induction fees at the end.  I'm at a different school now and they have never had a troupe.  I want to start one - but I was worried about the ...

Hey! I am looking for some one who has the rehearsal tracks and the script for the version of friend like me from the dual language version of Aladdin Jr. I'm not doing the show, but am doing a little combo lesson with the Spanish immersion students at my school and would love to use this for an idea ...

I might be asking the impossible, but I'm trying to build a set of at least three periaktoi on a very limited budget.  I'm going to do it and my construction skills are pretty basic.  I'm looking for some basic plans that are pretty easy to follow.  (I did a google search and found some that are not ...

First of all, I do think there are other teachers busting their fears as much as the theatre teachers. I think the biggest misconception though is that because from the outside we make what we do look "fun/easy", other people don't understand how much work it is. I always love when someone comes to us ...

If I remember correctly, I am pretty sure that they used something like a laser pointer for tinker bell in off Broadway cast. So glad that you are doing this. I adore this show. It is just magical and, when done in its minimalistic sort of way, is everything I love about theatre. Sent from my ...

I have a specificity game that I love. I write down two similar but distinct options on a card and have two students come up and act them out in front of the class. After 15 seconds I get the students to guess what each is doing. Some examples: Eating a bowl of soup vs eating a bowl of cereal Writing ...

I don't tend to say/use "creative choices" with the kids. It is easy for a kid to dismiss it and say that they aren't creative. When I am starting off, I sort of follow Sean layne's vocabulary in a way and I often ask them to make bigger, bolder choices. This pushes them outside of their comfort zone. ...

I have done this lots! I love to write, and when I write something I can keep my kids in mind and/or adjust to my needs for my kids. I can create a character to accommodate the new student who moved in during rehearsal process or cut a scene that just isn't working, or change a line! Kids love waking ...

Does anyone use a form (google form, etc.) or online system at all to keep track of points for ITJS or ITS? I would love for students to be able to update their info and I can approve/apply points? ------------------------------ Jennifer Simmons Lexington SC ------------------------------

I'm looking for a concise (less than 5 minutes) physical and vocal warm up to do with my middle school theatre classes every day at the beginning of class. I had one I was doing, BUT it ends with everyone having high energy and vocals (I do the 8s normally, shaking out hands and feet one at a time for ...

I did a version I adapted myself last year with my 8th graders and loved it. It is easy to adapt yourself because it is dialogue heavy anyway. I would do it again in a heartbeat because it was lots of fun. The only thing I changed was I had Alice "transform" for part of the action in Wonderland, merely ...

The first week we immediately start off with ensemble building. I sort of use Sean Layne's method, but really focus on how the room is a safe space, students should experiment in there and not be afraid to fail. Get them used to making bold choices. Get them doing crazy, abstract things together at first ...

I'm considering this play for the fall, as well. I love having material that coincides with things in the world around us. Can you explain that is isn't a partisan look at it - that there could be some fantastic arts integration opportunities for students to look at the election process? I was going ...

We did Pirates of Penzance, Jr., through MTI last year. Some of the words that were originally in songs have been extracted from it as dialogue. I really liked it. My kids were still meh on it because it wasn't a well known name to them. Jennifer Simmons, MAT, Theatre Arts Educator -------------- ...
