This argument has been around forever.   There is a always going to be an atmosphere of competition.  People like trophies, they like rankings,  and they want the accolades to put on resumes. Winning is great.  But if you are constantly worried about what other schools are doing and what judges say and  ...

We used the recycled attic "fiberglass" insulation which is just mostly paper and other safe recycled material and wallpaper paste that was diluted to create this cave. You get a big bundle of the insulation for about $11 at Lowes. After you mix it with the paste you can spread it across cardboard and ...

Do the show but add a Talk Back portion to it. It is one thing to put on a bad performance and walk away but it is another to hear it from the audience. Chances are once you add this element, the actors will step up their game and they will learn more from the experience. Good luck. ------------------------------ ...

Does it matter about whether you in the booth or standing right there? What I mean is that kids can hurt themselves doing stupid things or project related things no matter what your location is. Our projects are too large for us to governor every foot of space and we have to trust our students. We try ...

We run a mix of digital and UHF mics. About 20 in total for a musical. The digital we use Line 6, which are compatible with Shure products, for the lead characters and some cheapo Pyle UHF mic (which work surprisingly well) for the ensemble. ------------------------------ Allen Price California ...

That is a rough situation. We hold auditions in December and start rehearsals around the second week of January and the show usually goes off at the end of March or middle of April. We typically rehearse four days a week from 2:30-5:30 (unless we get hit with tons of snow days and then go until 6:30). ...

Our state level festival has very simple rules and I think they fall in line with the National rules: 1. No flats of any kind: wall, door, etc 2. Items must able to fit through a door and be carried by one person (couches excluding-you can have a friend help you) 3. Lights: Standard wash with ...

Love the idea of red long johns. Location is important (I'm in Southern Maryland). Know your audience and your administrators. And while you might not receive any complaints to you or your school, you do run the risk of alienating a portion of your audience. To censor or not to censor is a messy question. ...

While the northern lights are the magical moment of the story, they shouldn't be ever present. They appear at the end of Her Heart and then your clock has to reset for the next story since they all start at nine. We put our LED strip lights on the cat and flooded the stage with green light. We added ...

Get your techs on stage. It makes the kids happy and the families happy. And when they enter the professional world, the pay check will make them happy and keep them back stage. And try not to refer to them as "techies." That will irritate any professional technician. -------------------------- ...

You have to make them believe that what they are doing is more important than everything. How do you do this? Not easy at all. But you have to show them that what they put, they will get back. And you have to listen to the student voice. If they feel connected, they will give you more. And then once ...

For me, it is always a group choice. The band teacher knows if the pit can handle the music or if he/she has the right personnel for the pit. The same goes with the chorus teacher. They both know. And they will work just as hard on the show as you especially if they have a voice in it. You are still ...

The contract is great because it protects you and gives you a means to do swift action. Valerie is absolutely right about the negativity coming from one location. There is usually an antagonist in the group. Isolate them. And the contract will give you the administration support you need. If it ...
