My students have requested a comedy for the fall and I really like the unusual structure and staging of Appropriate Audience Behavior by Ian McWethy, but I have a few questions for any of you who might have produced this:1. Is it really only approx 35 minutes long? That's a little short -- I was hoping ...

This looks great! Brooke, can it be produced without intermission or is it a full two-act production? I ask because I am always on a quest for shows that run w/o intermission (I am not a fan of breaking the flow). -- Susan Sterman-JonesTheatre Teacher, Theatre Director7th Grade Advisor, GSA Co-leaderGrace ...

Our current cast is 21. The script allows for dividing certain roles into multiple roles and we added ensemble. My music director worked on the development of this piece at Goodspeed so he is able to contact the writers for help and suggestions along the way. The music is truly beautiful.-- Susan ...

I am in the rehearsal process now.  We love it but do keep in mind that it is 90% music so you really have to have strong vocalists who can tell a story through song.  The set is very simple, there are almost no props (just two, really) and it's a modern day piece so costuming is straightforward. Also, ...

I have recently been approached by two people seeking positions as theatre teachers. I've been in my position for so long that I'm a bit out of the loop with regard to finding a job (across the country or even internationally) and so when they asked for my advice I was unable to give a good answer. Where ...

For school year 2015/2016, I commissioned and helped develop a brand new musical with an award-winning playwright that features a gay male lead and an older lesbian couple. The musical is not about bullying, or someone struggling with his/her sexuality, the male lead is just a kid who happens to be gay ...

I'm seeing so many great things about this play on this forum and it sounds like something I might like to do in the fall. I see that it is a "full-length play" -- can someone who has done it tell me what the approximate running time was? Is it a two-act play? Can it be performed without an intermission? ...

Hi All -- this is to my NYC and in the area colleagues: my long-time and much-loved music director is no longer available. I am in need of someone to start with auditions in January. If you can recommend someone fabulous and talented, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks! Susan Sterman-JonesDramaGrace ...

We also have very limited space backstage. We use a rolling divider to create a small space in the dressing room/backstage area for girls to change behind, and the boys use a small room off the side of the backstage area. But we have a transgender actor and a genderqueer actor in our program, so I have ...

This describes a student I have right now, he is just about the most naturally talented student I have ever had, and I have had some extraordinary actors pass through my program. Next year is his last year and I am trying to pick out two shows that will really showcase his talent. So I'm looking for ...

This forum has been incredibly useful!!! A while ago, I posted a request for telephones (for our current production of Bye Bye Birdie) and was able to connect with a woman in Michigan, who sent me a box full of multi-colored telephone receivers with cords -- exactly what I wanted! Amazing! Thank you ...

I am looking for a professional development opportunity (short course, workshop, conference) in Europe. My preference is England, with a focus on Shakespeare, but I am open to many other places and courses of study. Does anyone know of anything that fits this bill? I am looking to go at some point during ...

I teach a musical theatre course designed for 5th grade. I created it with our music teacher four years ago. It's a year-long course, the kids spend 5 - 6 weeks with me learning about the Golden Age of American Musical Theatre (through discussion and film), then they spend 5 - 6 weeks with the music ...

We need lots of telephones for our upcoming production of Bye Bye Birdie. Does anyone have a whole bunch they can loan or sell or rent to us? Really we are mostly in need of the receivers only, so we'd have to disconnect the receiver from the phone for the production OR we are happy to accept receivers ...

I am looking for a play that will cater to a large cast AND is gay themed or at least has gay characters in it. I am not looking for a victim play - but rather, something uplifting, even funny, would work best. Something dramatic is OK, too. Again, the cast should be large and the subject matter ...

Anyone know of a good (online) prop house, store, etc. (I often use Theatre House but I find their inventory to be lacking lately). I am looking to buy and/or rent. We often use Anything But Costumes, but I am looking for small props (food items, etc.) and am happy to buy if the price is right. ...

We are in the midst of rehearsals for Bye Bye Birdie. If you have done this show in the past, can you tell me if there is a recording of the Ed Sullivan voice that I might be able to buy or use? On the same note, can you tell me what you did with the Ed Sullivan voice in your production? Thanks! ...
