Hello,     A recommendation for Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka came through this forum. I am in production now. It is a challenging but beautiful script about a refugee boy in search of his mother - adapted from the Odyssey. It's available through play scripts and had a flexible cast. Best wishes. ...

Hello,     Has anyone directed a shortened version of Anonymous by Naomi Iizuka? The script is 50 pages yet the running time is listed as 90 minutes without an intermission.  Playscripts allows cuttings so I wonder if anyone has successfully shortened the script for a one act (60 minute limit) festival. ...

Hi Jessica,      I directed this show way back in 1997 and yes, I split the role of Raja into the younger/adult versions. It worked well and gave two students a wonderful opportunity to experience this powerful story. Best wishes. ------------------------------ [Nancy][Vitulli] [Theater Teacher/Drama ...

I thank you all for your insights.  I always question myself and how I handle casting as it is a a sensitive issue and I try to be as fair and objective as can be but after twenty-three years, I still quiver at parental pressure and question my practice. I do provide students with a full rehearsal schedule ...

Hello Colleagues,      I've been teaching and directing high school theater for 20+ years and I wonder how you handle rehearsal conflicts with religious ed classes. We rehearse on a Monday and Wednesday evening and Thursday after school. Each year, some 9th and 10th graders inevitably have an ongoing ...

Hello George, I love the proposed idea on how to approach set design. As a non-technical theater teacher, the best I can offer my students is how to develop a design as a story telling element. How to create a place that supports the story, script analysis, research, and the steps involved are crucial ...

I hate to admit that we ask all actors and crew members to fundraise $50 to be involved in a show. We do a cookie dough fundraiser and program ads in the fall and either just program ads or a popcorn fundraiser in the spring.  We can at a local supermarket as well. Some of this money offsets meals during ...

We use booktix which operates out of New Jersey. I met the owners two years ago at a theater conference in Boston. They're Rutgers grads who just happened to go through their undergrad program with one of my former students from Rhode Island. I've been happy with the decision, good customer service, ...

Hello All,      I am in a dilemna over casting for Still Life With Iris.  While the script suggests character doubling, I have seen many different interpretations for casting choices at various websites.  For those that are familiar with the script, do you think it is integral to the playwright's vision ...
