Well, we did it with one drummer and a pianist. My advice is to get on the music early. It underscores a lot of the action and the numbers are in tricky time signatures. "Swim On" is going to be in my nightmares for a long time. It's a hard number to coordinate with the musicians. The fact that there ...

I told my kids this year that if they indicate they will take any role they are cast on the audition form and then drop out if it is a chorus role, it will severely impact their getting cast in a lead role while in high school. I would rather they be honest and say on the form that they will not take ...

They charge them a nominal fee ($100) to help offset the fee we pay to our state high school athletics and activities association who sanctions the activities. ------------------------------ Zach Schneider Troupe ...

I'd use sound and light. The sound of rainfall (live foley from actors or recorded) coupled with one of those led light shower things folks use at Christmas can create that visual illusion. That's what we did for the rain in the jungle scene in Peter and the Starcatcher. ------------------------------ ...

Ruben, 1. By fusing R&B, hip-hop, rap, and traditional lyrical musical theatre pieces, Hamilton has impacted musical theatre education in that it uses musical forms that our students are already steeped in. It also takes subject matter that every middle school student learns as dead, dry, and unconnected ...

Scott, You may not remember our conversation a couple of years ago, but I grew up with Matt and know many of the people whose words made it into the play. We did this show a few years ago and when I was asked about the language my argument was two-fold: One, this is not a fictional play with made up ...

Mehron sells large containers of white and black. We did this show and had kids cover with the white and do shadows and contours with black. I would stay away from tubes of Halloween makeup as it has so little pigment in it, you have to use 2 to 3 times more for the same effect. It also caused some allergic ...

Are students coming up with their own dues? If so, there really is no need for you to spend any money on inductions. We have an induction ceremony followed by a pot luck dinner on our stage (when it's not under remodel, that is). Have students sign up for different dishes and bring them. We then play ...

I graduated in 2014 from UNC. The program's capstone project is the thesis or action research project. They are always tweaking things, so this is based on my experience only. The most traditional route is the production thesis. You pick a play you want to answer some research questions about (usually ...
