Hi Chad,  Our Upper School just did a production of The Tempest. They used clear plastic masks with the white foam cushions on the top and bottom. Our director cover the white with medical tape so it wasn't as distracting. It worked well with our mics.  Break a leg,  Tina ------------------------------ ...

I grew up in Louisville and shopped at Caulfield's as a high school Theatre student! I had forgotten all about them. Thank you for the reminder. Unfortunately, Performance changed management and the service is horrendous! I just can't spend my money there after 30 years of doing so. Thanks for the reminder ...

We did "interview" and it worked well. I put one student in the waiting room. The other students decide who the one in the waiting room will be. For example the first student was Boris Johnson. Then I bring them back to the meeting and the class begins to ask questions of the person until that it becomes ...

My students were in the middle of filming mockumentaries they had written. Now that we are not together, they are going to create short films. I gave them similar directions; Beginning, middle, end. Conflict. Engage the audience emotionally. Show don't tell. Keep it simple. Focus on a moment and telling ...

You could try You Can't Take It With You, Picnic or possibly some Neil Simon, although if your school is very conservative, there might be some language in Neil Simon. ------------------------------ Tina Tutt Middle School Theatre Teacher Middle School Theatre Director Battle Ground Academy Franklin, ...

Do you have a means to record them and play it back for them to see/hear? I find with my 5th and 6th grade if they see/hear what I keep telling them then they get it. Record them rehearsing then watch. Often times once they see and hear for themselves, they begin to correct it and listen to your direction ...

I would ask for a lighting grid, lights, and small control system to hang from the ceiling in addition to your standard classroom lights. I have been blessed to have this set up for my day to classroom for 19 years now. if it is also to be your set building space, ask for tables and chairs not desks. ...

While I have directed Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado with success, Midsummer is still the all time favorite. The reasons are all listed above, large/small cast, flexibility in casting, etc. I have used scaffolding draped in flowers and greenery this allowing the fairies to "fly" and giving the stage many ...

I also have each student read the next line.  I do this in class and sometimes even at the first read through for our after school productions. It is a great way to keep them all involved and answer questions as a group.  Break a leg! ------------------------------ Tina Tutt Middle School Theatre ...

I also teach in a small independent school. I began our theatre program here in the Upper School 18 years ago and then began our Middle School program 13 years ago. I agree with the above comments. Consider offering a Theatre Arts class, allowing students to study all aspects of the theatre and/or tv/film. ...

Hi All, We are building a new theatre at our school and we have been asked if we want two catwalks for the lighting over the seats or two electrics that lower and raise. Any thoughts? Pros/cons to either system? We have been in a cafetorium with dead hung electrics and we use a lift to move/focus ...
