Thank you everyone! Some nice ideas, keep them coming please. My Fall play is usually at least twenty kids, but I am open to anything, maybe even double casts. ------------------------------ Jeffrey Davis Plainsboro NJ ------------------------------

I wanted to do She kills Monsters next year for the fall play, my admin is leery of it. In looking at my past 15 yrs. in this district, it hits me that all the stories I have put on the stage are really heterosexual, my large group of LGBTQ kids never sees themselves up there. My admin is open to doing ...

I did this show about six years ago, it is a blast! I got a bit creative with it, tried to tie the whole thing to the pop art of Roy Lichtenstein - so very color saturated, wild wigs, make-up that was reminiscent of his work (I wanted it to have the dots, but couldn't quite figure out how to do that ...

I echo what others have said, I have it in the audition form that they are auditioning for A part in the play, not a specific part, and that by auditioning they are agreeing to accept whatever part they get. I also personally verbally state this at the audition workshop. It has cut down on drops dramatically. ...

Cut him. Put the replacement in, find a new Simon. In the end, the play is only as good as the weakest link, this time that's him. You have been more than patient, and given more than enough chances, now you have to move forward for the sake of the cast and your program. That lesson, the "Everybody is ...

I always try to get admin to observe on a day where we are doing critique. They are not used to seeing students critique each other in a meaningful, supportive, honest way. It blows their administrator minds! So if your kids are trained well in critique, I'd recommend that. Works every time. ---- ...

I agree that content wise it is not glorifying drugs - also, I don;t know how the play works without it! Nothing would make sense, and it's referred to (I could be wrong I did it about ten years ago) in other scenes, as well as setting up who puffer is... I'd say go for the hard sell on your principal ...

I will echo what others have said, and I will point out that like many ethical questions - it is also a legal one. I don't think you can deny a student opportunity because of a rumor. I also don't think you should. My students rumor mill is often fantastic, sometimes super accurate, but also sometimes ...

I have used a casting committee for twelve years now and love it. I think it is important to spell out the rules to both the committee and the students/parents/ admin. so everyone knows what the criteria are. So for example, my rules are: The casting panel will only use what they see in the audition ...

Every year I spend about $4k on renting wireless body mics. I have toyed with the idea of raising the money to buy our own - but in the end, I have avoided doing it because they keep selling off bits - I cannot imagine the time it would take my kids and I to raise the kind of money we'd need for a good ...

As part of this move, will you guys start giving out your tax i.d. number when schools ask for it? 'Cause then some of us could use you as a vendor again, which would be cool! ------------------------------ Jeffrey Davis Plainsboro NJ ------------------------------

Richard, it depends on what you want the students to take from the unit. You could do this as a way of helping them to understand how through most of theatre history masks have been used, in which case some good detailed history tracing masks from greeks through commedia might be awesome to start, ...

YES!!! Thank you John and all who chimed in. about once every couple of years my students ask if we can do Grease, and I tell them no for exactly the reasons mentioned. To my kid's credit, once explained, they get it, a few have said the understand but still love it, a few have changed the way they ...

I did the original version this year, regretted it. The songs are not great, the later versions seem to develop story and character more as well. It's simple to pull off, but in all other respects seems to be inferior. The only show I have ever regretted choosing. (though it did sell out... so there ...

I gotta ask... why? It's an amazing show - difficult but not impossible for talented HS students, and beautifully written. I would think an edited or adapted version would just drain all the beauty and punch from the original. I would say (and I sound like a purist here but am not usually, I swear) if ...

So for awhile I have thought of trying (probably failing, but trying) to make the argument to the powers that be in my district that my stipend should be equivalent to head coach. My argument will be: 1) My program publicly represents the school - like sports 2) My hours put in are actually more ...
