We are using a caucasian mannequin head to create the beheaded soldier in Pippin. Our actor is African American. We were going to use make-up and a wig to make the head look like our actor. It was brought to my attention that that would be inappropriate and that we should get a darker mannequin. Any ...

We did "Working" a couple years back and it was an inexpensive and simple show to stage and costume and the pit can be small. The kids really enjoyed it too.Or maybe "All Shook Up". It calls for a motorcycle but we borrowed one and adapted it. Again not a hard set or costume show and a lot of fun!Hope ...

Hi,  We don't have any student musicians to choose from so I hire pros.  We have 2 rehearsals and 3 shows.  I've found this to be sufficient but again I'm not working with students.  We pay $80/visit.  So far I've been able to get really great players.  I hope this helps. ------------------------------ ...

Hi, We are in Haverhill MA and doing "Curtains" in March. We are looking for 8 wooden chairs that we can use in the "Thataway" number. The setting is in a Saloon with Dance Hall Gals and Cowboys and the chairs would be danced w/and on. Wooden, no arms, and sturdy but weathered and worn is fine.If anyone ...

Hi, We're in rehearsals for Curtains and I'm looking into the prop pistols we'll be needing. I'm hoping to get some information about them and their use in theatre before bringing up the subject with our admin. I anticipate a knee jerk reaction of "no" but hope to present some images and/or testimony ...

We started our year hoping to do Mystery of Edwin Drood but changed to Curtains.  Drood has scenes and references to opiods and our admin would not approve.  We are in rehearsals for Curtains and it's fun.  Big and not easy, but fun.  Good luck! ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill ...

Hi,  I'm currently using Rehearsal Tracks for rehearsal only and so far I like it.  I haven't tried to edit anything yet but it is a great tool for rehearsals especially for choreography. ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill MA ------------------------------

Hi Jeff,  Thanks for the info.  You had a substantial pit and I bet it sounded great!  It is helpful to see how it was filled out.  I'm moving in the direction of adding WW players primarily.  Thanks again.  Linda ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill MA ------------------------ ...

Hi folks,  I'm currently hiring my pit for "Curtains" and I wonder if anyone has any experience with the best way to get the most out of fewer instruments.  I currently have 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 WW (no flute) and a rhythm section with 2 keys.  I'm thinking of adding one more WW player and stopping ...

Hi,  A good choreographer will always be prepared with a well thought out routine to teach the kids.  They should know the material well in advance of coming to rehearsal and be ready to teach.  They should also know how to instruct the kids in a methodical way that they can understand and review in ...

We've chosen Drood for our musical this year.  I'm wondering if anyone who has done the show has any suggestions for editing/rewriting the opium den parts.  I have to present the show to our principal and I'm sure the word alone will set off alarms, as well it should given the climate and crisis we are ...

Has anyone done this show and/or found any resources such as background practice tracks or printed scores to work with? Any input about the show would be appreciated. Did you look into renting?  We used to own and ran into the FCC frequency issue and decided to rent.  Not sure what the cost difference is with what you're looking at buying but for us it is better to rent high end mics. ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill MA ----------------- ...

I've had similar experiences at my school.  Even "Working" was censored after our opening night.  We did "We Will Rock You" this past spring and it went over really well.  The kids loved it and the admin too.  Or have you considered "All Shook Up"? ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill ...

The kids are 6-8 graders.  I came to my senses about Mary Poppins.  I'm interested in anything you might have tried with this age group that might include some mix of music and drama...? Thanks so much for chatting! ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill MA ---------------------- ...

Thank you for your input.  It's too much show with too little time, I agree.  On with the search! ------------------------------ Linda Urban Haverhill MA ------------------------------
