Try Zoom! We used it for the last 6 weeks of school and it worked really well both for teachers meetings and for teaching my classes. Zoom services were free during the pandemic. I'm not sure what they are doing now.  I used the whiteboard on it and it works well. There's also a function that allows ...

Looking for excellent scripts that have a series of stand-alone scenes or sketches. Small-ish cast of 10-15 max.  We are working on a show that features both current and alumni students, and I think the rehearsal schedule may be easier if current/alumni can work independently of each other for portions ...

Thank you everyone for your help! Several of these plays I have done already and I loved them. (Earnest, Miracle Worker, Scapino, one of my all time fav's)  But you've also given me several new plays to think about and look for.  Thank you so much! ------------------------------ Sheri Templeton ...

Needing some quick suggestions from all of you, as I find myself in an interesting position this semester. I have taught theater for many years, and usually spend the summer reading new material for the upcoming year.  Last year, I asked the school to find a replacement for me, (which they did) but the ...

HI Sheryl,  I think this is something that happens to ALL of us! Here are several things that have helped me over the last 30 something years:) Shared with me from an older and wiser colleague! Do not let this continue. The other students are watching and as you have noticed, this attitude will infect ...

Hi Jeana,  Are you talking about joining them from the backside? If so, go to Home Depot or Lowe's and ask for a joining plate or a mending plate, or a metal strap. They should be able to point you in the right direction. These are metal pieces with holes in them so that you can screw them into both ...

Great Ideas!  I also teach at a Christian High School and here are some plays with a slightly larger cast that have been wonderful experiences for us. I Never Saw Another Butterfly (Based on the true story of the children at Terazin in WW2) Murder at Crooked House (Squeaky clean murder mystery) You ...

Hi John, We have done this with Shakespeare, Moliere and of course, Aristophanes. We also wrote stage adaptations of two children's books after we obtained permission from the authors. We found that you have to have the right combination of students to do this effectively. You need a group of kids ...

I do "The Frogs" every year with my beginning students as part of an intro to Greek theater. However, I cut large chunks out so that what is left is more manageable for the students. I agree that the ending battle of wits is VERY long. If you would like to do a full length version, and you are up for ...

You might try to pull a scene from "Truth on Trial: The Ballad of Sojourner Truth". Large cast, lots of poetry that is set to familiar tunes such as Auld Lang Syne. ------------------------------ Sheri Templeton Valley Christian High School Chandler, AZ

Hi Ryan, I don't think this is just a Middle School problem, but may be worse during this age as kids are just beginning to figure out who in the world they are and how they fit in! I taught Junior High for 6 years, and then High School for the next 30 - not a lot of difference in the need to feel ...

HI Lisa, There is already a format for awarding students in theater. The International Thespian Society, which is part of the Educational Theater Association. If your school is a member of ITS, then you can begin awarding points to your students for their work in theater. There is already an award ...
