Just want to clarify...not all theatre programs in Arizona have CTE Tech Theatre programs.  I know many teachers who have stagecraft classes but aren't CTE certified.  They are funded by their district rather than JTED/CTE/Perkins Grant monies. And to make it more confusing...the overhaul of our standards ...

Hi All,  I am actually the person who is starting to work on the curriculum for CTE in AZ, but as a former CTE Tech Theatre teacher I just am having trouble wrapping my brain around how these things will miraculously come to life without designs.  If I were still teaching, I would continue to teach ...

Hi all,  I am leaving my position and suggested to my district they list it on the jobs page but since I don't think they are going to, wanted to get the word out.   I teach 1 beginning, 1 intermediate, and 1 advanced class, and 2 CTE tech theatre classes.  It is a small school (about 600) and small ...

We did Bye Bye Birdie two years ago with tracks for our small school's first musical. I feel like I could not have done this without an ally. The history teacher/cheer coach was in it in HS and helped with the choreography, and I had a friend who came and did some vocal direction for very little money. ...

I remember feeling panicked at how we would costume this show until I found some amazing curtains and shower curtains at the thrift store. They had more body than bedsheets, and I figured if it was good enough for Scarlett O'Hara, it was good enough for us! We also found a vest pattern that pulled them ...

We would like to incorporate cords for graduation, but per our admin we need to develop a criteria/rubric for who is eligible. I know we can use thespian points, GPAs, etc, but before we sit down and try to develop something brand new, I was wondering if anyone has something they already do ...

My iPad was quirky so apologies if you are getting this twice. When we started the tech class a few years back the students deemed themselves a pirate crew of sorts, so my first sewing project is a Pirate flag. They design it to represent aspects of their personality. I pass out samples of actual ...

I start out with a pirate flag project (our tech class decided we were like the Pirates of the campus when we first started a few years back). It incorporates two hand stitches, two sewing machine stitches, and one serged edge to introduce them to our one serger. I only have a couple machines, so ...

Sorry it's taken me a few days but I am looking for our production photos, which I will post when I find them. But here are my responses to 1. how did you work the Samantha switch with the male "Sam" character from behind her in the car? --We used a female for both. The 3rd character was in ...

We are on board also. Going to put together some books and costumes. Please let us know when would be a good time to mail some boxes after you get this figured out and share the best address with us all. Thank you for reaching out. I think it gives our students a very tangible way to feel like ...

The mis en scene scenarios were given to small groups so they could practice angles, lighting, etc. Each group did not know the other group story scenarios, and the scenes were performed without dialogue. We watched them as a class and everyone tried to "guess" what the movie was about based on what ...

I'm not sure if you are looking for more of an overview of the curriculum, but here is my syllabus. I ran it as a semester long class this year (this was my first year teaching it), so I learned a few things semester one and changed things for semester two. (The main change being I had the actors learning ...

My favorite is "The Dazzle" by Richard Greenberg. No way I could ever do this play but I have had students use it for scene work. I love re-reading it every few years. ------------------------------ Debbie MacKinney Theatre Teacher, CTE Technical Theater, Troupe 7334 Advisor Tanque Verde Unified ...

We are mounting Fahrenheit 451, and there are a couple of scenes that will just come off as cheesy if we don't have a match or lighter. Has anyone in Arizona ever had to have a fire marshall come and approve something like this, and what was your experience like? I know that standard theatrical procedure ...
