Hi Suzanne! I made a separate post about this, but I know from experience that finding sequenced, developmentally appropriate theatre curriculum, tied to standards is difficult, especially for K-5.  This is why my husband, (an elementary school theatre teacher), and I (high school and university ...

My husband, (an elementary school theatre teacher), and I (high school and university theatre teacher) have started curriculum development for educational use in theatre companies, classrooms, and community arts organizations and would love to enlist collaborators! We are working to build a progression ...

For performers, make sure there is shaded space offstage, so when they are not on stage, they can be out of the sun. See if you can borrow some 10x10 pop-up canopies, tents, beach sun shelters, or even beach umbrellas. You can use bedsheets to create walls for even more of a sun-barrier.   Provide ...

In addition to directing high school students, I also teach voice and speech (including dialects) and coach productions for ECU here in Greenville, NC. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, and depending on your timeline, and if would be helpful, I may be able to Zoom into a rehearsal.   ...

For high school actors, "I and You" by Lauren Gunderson is magnificent! You need a male-presenting actor and a female-presenting actor and they are two different ethnicities (but they can be any ethnicities as long as they are different from each other). You can read the whole script on Playscripts ...

Fellow independent school director here.  We are also trying for a live performance but with many contingencies for what may happen between now and our February performances.  I didn't feel the need to do a separate waiver, since the kids are already attending school in person and I have been given the ...

I love the newer American Theatre Wing "Working in the Theatre" videos.  These videos cover all aspects of the process of creating theatre including playwriting, specialty props, devised theatre, profiles and panels with working artists, features about specific productions or theatre companies and so ...

The Wikipedia article is actually great! It goes over vowel and consonant changes and other features, plus lists lots of performances for reference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Atlantic_accent This website breaks it down into some easier pieces: https://howtotransatlanticaccent.wordpress.com/ ...

I have nothing to contribute yet, but I want to follow this conversation.  That article and its implications have been keeping me up at night. I am hopeful that the EdTA leadership might provide some guidance/ recommendations on best practices...   Should we be doing only small-cast projects?  Only ...

I think this has split into to entirely separate conversations.   The first one is about how to award points for projects that were not completed or canceled because of the pandemic.  For these, students should absolutely be awarded points for the project, just like they would be if they rehearsed ...

Hi!  In addition to teaching and directing plays, I am also the Director of Development at our independent school.  The school currently has a Corporate Partner program, so we cannot offer advertising benefits outside of that for our productions, but drawing from that program, here's what would dovetail ...

As John pointed out, a touring script would be a great guide.  I have toured with 5 people in both Hamlet and Taming of the Shrew.  Hamlet actually worked very well because although there are a ton of characters, many of them are on stage for only a couple of scenes and others are easily cut or combined.  ...

Since I give points for scripts that students write for my class assignments, I always have anyone who is writing one independently adhere to some of the same requirements.  They have to do at least one round of feedback and revisions with me, more if they are going to submit it to a contest for additional ...

Photos from both are attached above, the second one being "Footloose".  I probably have better photos somewhere, but I don't have time to dig.   The LED lights (tape) we are using are similar to this product: https://www.amazon.com/MINGER-Changing-Lighting-Flexible-Decoration/dp/B07JP5375R --- ...

For our production of "Footloose" last year, we purchased a muslin cyc, just like Josh has suggested.  We used LED strip lights, attached to the back of our unit set and it was very versatile.  The cost was very comparable to the rented drops we had used in the past, but the cyc we can use over and over.  ...
