I agree with Gary.  We did WORKING this fall outside and it was very successful.   Check out the 2012 version with new songs by Lin Manuel Miranda.  It is perfect for social distancing and you can do it with a very flexible cast size.  Lots of opportunities.  I'm pretty sure streaming rights are now ...

Here is a  follow-up question.  I am thinking about updating our headset system and was doing a little some research.  A lot of the wireless systems made by clear com are running in the 2.4 GHz range.  We have (10) Audio Technica system 10 wireless microphones operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency range ...

We have had a small increase in students dropping shows over the last 5 years as well. We too have initiated a policy with consequences for dropping a show after its cast. This has helped lessen the number I think I do have a few ideas that help that "spread the wealth" sub discussion on this thread. ...

We have been using the x32 by Behringer for a few years. The console offers a lot of bang for your buck. We actually use two for our major musicals using a master/slave set up with one the (X32 RACK) used to mix the band (we mic every musician in our pit orchestra) and one for our wireless mics we use ...

Colleagues, Thanks to the few of you who have sent me things about your audition process.  I know it's a busy time, but I could use more responses from HS Theatre directors.  My bottom line needs are:  a brief explanation of your process any scoring device or rubrics you use.  (if you ...

I am studying the audition and casting procedures and policies at our school. I am looking for input from other high school theatre directors. I am particularly interested in hearing from those of you who offer classes with co-curricular productions as well as purely extra-curricular productions ...

I suggest looking at your school or district mission statement.  Do you have language about acceptance of students of diversity? These could help inform your discussion.  In the end, I would look for a way for the student to be a part of the production at least in the class learning experience, but not ...

We have been using our Audio Technica 3000 Wireless microphone systems for successfully for 13 years, however, we have several channels in the 600 MHz area that will need to be phased out. I have been researching the new AT, Shure, & Sennheiser systems when my sales rep brought up the Airwave Technologies ...

What about Seussical Jr.? Have your junior high kids be the Who's and your high school kids be the jungle creatures? You'll need an after-school rehearsal for Jo Jo and Horton for "Alone in the Universe." You'll probably want to include everyone in "Oh the thinks..." opening and closing, but you could ...

For Footloose back in 2006 my tech director got us the front tire and handlebar assembly from some motorcycles from a junkyard. The students could walk behind the motorcycles holding the handlebar and the "bikes" would roll on on their tire. We put a huge boat style flashlight to replace the headlight ...

For students with projection issues, I use a simple exercise to help improve projection, pacing and articulation. For each word that they speak, I require the actor to point towards the audience with alternating arms. This forces them to slow down and separate their words. As they do it I require ...

You can certainly go about it a variety of ways. It really depends on how many kids you have or want to cast. We usually have tons of kids who want to be in the show so an adult ensemble worked fine for us. They were in the opening church scene, the act I finale backing up Rev Moore, the town hall meeting, ...

I directed "Catch Me If you Can" at Sycamore High School in Cincinnati and I concur with the challenges the score presents. The harmonies are tight and some tracks call for 6+parts. The range of Frank in particular. We choose to use MTI's transpositions on demand ($125 a tune I think) for the opening ...

We produced the show a few years back as well. It was awesome. I agree with the advice about the engineer, the local pool guy and pool liner. When the pump and heater were installed, we had to be in compliance with the county electrical inspector code for pools. I did not anticipate this. Caused me some ...

We just closed SHREK the musical. This script offers tons of opportunities for students, had a huge box office draw, but has considerable technical challenges. We have a SHREK set and dragon for rent or sale. Some pictures available on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Aves-Theatre-Booste ...
