I directed middle school for about 9 years and now I'm at high school. I've come close to canceling a couple of times. I agree that if you can disguise a prop as a script for the one actor who can't seem to memorize lines- do it. Or hide the script on stage - usually I had one actor in the middle school ...

I have cut actors last minute when I knew that they were not committed and not going to memorize (only when I've had a photographic memory student ready to step in like you do). I have not cut them when I know they are trying extremely hard and doing their level best. I've also cut actors (maybe once) ...

I'm looking for a good, one act murder mystery that has a somewhat large cast, heavier on females but maybe can be gender flexible with possibilities for extras. I don't have a lot of budget and like to do minimal sets and don't have a lot in the way of costumes. My students want to do a serious/spooky ...

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten has a very flexible cast, easy set and costumes and although it has some skits that are funny there are plenty that have a serious theme. You can choose to do it as a musical or not and you can also choose to do however many of the skits as you like. ...

This is me every year. Some years I am lucky enough to have about 5 boys but never more than that. I generally look for shows that have a flexible cast or if they have more males than I have, I look for flexible characters or read the scripts to see if it would make sense for the males to be female characters ...

I am thinking of asking our shop class to build new reusable flats for sets and since I'm not educated in theatre, I want to know the best way to go about this (and with the least amount of cost for now and the future). We have flats now, but they are very very OLD, the wood is in bad shape, the canvas ...

I'm kicking around the idea of doing a theatre camp over a break this year for younger students, run by high school drama students. My idea is to have it short- 9-11am and do four rooms where a group of 10 kids each can rotate in and out of (theatre crafts such as decorating masks, song/dance, theatre ...

Any suggestions for a medium length, murder mystery in the spirit of the "guy noir" era with the somewhat cheesy, stereotypical characters and suspects? Looking for one that is heavy on girls- have roughly 4-5 guys if I don't lose any to winter sports. Rachel CunninghamElwood Jr/Sr HS Guidance Cou ...

Has anyone given thespian points for coming in over break to clean and organize storage? Also we just did two one act shows back to back. I generally don't give points to tech crew that do not show up for performances even if they come to rehearsals. What do others do? I feel like they let down the other ...

Does anyone know where I can find safety regulations for a proscenium stage, specifically the weight limits for the stage apron above the orchestra pit? Is there a website or spot to look for and does each state have their own or are the rules universal across the country? ------------------------------ ...

You will be provided a certificate and pin from ITS. The cost is $28 for the one time induction fee. I usually have enough in my drama club account to pay for part of it and try not to have my students have to pay more than $10 (we are a very high percentage of free/reduced lunch). I also have a fundraiser ...

I'm getting ready to go to my union about my drama stipend and ask for a reconfiguration of the amount. I don't believe it's been raised in over 20 years, plus I don't understand how I am paid about a quarter of what coaches are paid and their season is four months long and mine goes all year (granted ...
