Nicole, To begin, I understand the nature of confusion when it comes to Thespian points, as they are not exactly "black and white" in nature. The equation for points versus hours spent in rehearsal and prepaparation do not always have fair equivalents. I just directed my son as Sky Masterson in Guys ...

Can you form a parental booster club? The parents would run it, not you, but would understand your vision for any monies earned and spend them on your program. The should form as a 501(c)(3) and buy you what you need, when you need it, from the vendor you need. ------------------------------ ...

Lydia, Been there . . . when I began many years ago, I came AFTER a rather laissez-faire instructor who seemed to socialize more with the kids than mentor them. And I came up against the established dance teacher/department chair, who saw and wanted things HER way. Combined with the choir director, ...

"This is my 3rd year as a theater director and we are about to put on our first improv show. We are working through the upright citizens brigade handbook but are not quite ready for a full long form show. I guess my real question is How do you structure an improv show and what games do you play in front ...

25 die hard students who have increasingly strong dancing chops and already excel in terms of singing/acting. That was MY high school in the 70s and 80s. Choose what best suits the actors you have. Not necessarily the trendiest scripts. It is OUR responsibility to lead our students to productions ...

Hi gang --  Shira NAILED many of my thoughts on this topic --  You are an artist yourself Your visions for your productions, as the director, are the ones that need to appear on the stage. It is your name associated with this aspect of the show. If the show is GREAT, YEA KIDS!!!!!!! ...

I am all for having the students self-direct and produce something, but not until I have had the opportunity to teach them how I want them to proceed. Every production is my responsibility, so my seal of approval must accompany . . . quality, integrity . . . I have had student directed shows that were ...

"Act well your part; there all the honour lies."                                ~Alexander Pope For US, everything you do in front of the director is an audition. On stage and off. Acting is about relationships and trust. If you cannot be trusted, you won't make it very far on our stage. Your behavior ...

I just happen to have a copy of "Charley's Aunt" recently purchased from Samuel French.  The title page says "This Acting Edition is printed from the MSS by Brandon Thomas as first performed in 1892." The second page says, "Copyright 1935 by Jevan Roderick Brandon-Thomas and William Deane Barnes-Brand" ...

Not really the same, but I just attended Southern Utah University's production of "Hamlet" at the Utah Shakespeare Festival -- it was fantastic!! Hamlet was a WOMAN -- played by a woman! Not a woman playing a man -- genders REVERSED!! For everybody!!! Kudos to director Peter Sham, and actress Halie Merrill, ...

My school district requires that we use a district approved tourist agency for all overnight trips. In a case like this, I'd meet with our agent and explain my financial situation and all of that so that they could shop around for the most affordable yet productive trip possible. ------------------------------ ...

"Pick your battles"? Pick this one. I experienced almost the EXACT same situation . . . the students loved the old guy and resisted the new guy. My choices, my rules, my everything. In case you students are unaware, "props in the prop room are not yours to take" is a universal theater rule. "Improv ...

I want this! I began on elementary music and found it deepened my understanding of my students and my own teaching, but I want the THEATER certification -- it wasn't available. Now -- I'm in! Will this certification be available in ALL 50 states and the District of Columbia, regardless of whether ...
