We just did a successful run last Fall. Our original Delores was of color, but she dropped out. Our replacement was definitely not, so we alteerd the few obvious lines and it worked well. ------------------------------ Rob Juergens High School Musical Director Windham ME --------------------- ...

Our district funds the Directors stipend only, but it is consistently funded. We pay for a Musical Director, Choreographer, Pianist, Set Designer/Builder, and any expenses out of our ticket and concession sales. ------------------------------ Rob Juergens High School Musical and One Act Director ...

We used a combination of live Toto and "Toto-in-a-basket". It worked great for the scenes when Toto just needs to be there and not actually be involved. Although one night during the poppy scene Toto began licking the face of the supposedly passed-out Dorothy, who promptly began to giggle. ------ ...

We have done The Bald Soprano and the one act version of Love of 3 Oranges in the round, and both worked very well. Both were student directed. ------------------------------ Rob Juergens High School Musical Director Windham ME

My decision was based on choosing the one that had "King of the Forest". I couldn't imagine doing Oz without it. ------------------------------ Rob Juergens High School Musical Director Windham ME

I love having the orchestra onstage, but it can be difficult. Have you considered a large raised platform, with space for exits/entrances, perhaps screened by "trees", or maybe even incorporating a tower or cabin? We usually have the orchestra on the floor, with a "pit" created by removing 2 rows of ...

We used to do a 2 week Thursday-Saturday run, with a double on Saturdays. However, Thursday was a dead house, and the evening show on Saturday was a killer, you could watch the energy levels drop. When I took over as Director we ditched the Thursday show and added a Sunday 4:00 show. So now we have 8 ...

We used a gobo for the aurora, with simple star gobos for the night sky. For the set we borrowed a lot of fake Christmas trees, and built snow banks out of low wood frames, chicken wire, and white felt. That was the background, and we brought on simple set pieces as needed. I highly reccomend using parka ...

We do a Fall musical because the short and intense Spring sports season precludes athletes from joining in. We audition in June the year before, and start right in once school starts. Typically we rehearse 2-3 days a week between dance and blocking, with a long day Saturday (9-2:00) for music, dance, ...

We do a fall musical every year. The district pays my stipend, everything else we pay for. When I started we were in a deep hole and the school decided it was sink or swim. We worked on volunteers as much as possible, did 50/50 raffles, pushed concessions, and sold ads and got sponsors for the curtains. ...

I have a question regarding points. I know that Middle School and community theater together count for 5 points. However, our community theater has a strong children's program grades 2-8. The theater encourages high school Drama students to come back and work with shows. So I have several students who ...

I have done the show three times; in a HS setting and twice with community theater. I am in a small Southern Maine community and got 0 negative feedback. The guys who did the strip had more than 10 layers and it was hysterical. The most sensitive piece is definitely "They Fell"; but most people get the ...
