Hi Everyone! I have two sections of a Children's Theater Class comprised of juniors and seniors who are new to theatre.  I am looking for a one act (60 minutes tops) play that is great for young audiences and easily mobile.   The cast size would need to be medium-large, 12 to 20, and flexible.   ...

Sounds like Little Shop of Horrors would be a great choice too. Can't believe no one's mentioned it yet! ------------------------------ Jarad Benn Theater Teacher, Center for Performing and Fine Arts Pa Leadership Charter School Langhorne PA

Hi Gail- For your production of Fiddler, were you able to find a reduced score for your smaller instrumentation or did you have in house orchestrators to help with that? Just curious! Thanks! JB ------------------------------ Jarad Benn Theater Teacher, Center for Performing ...

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to let you know that we have decided to "GO FOR IT" and will be producing Fiddler this December at our school! The show will be, by far, the biggest musical done on our little stage, and it was your collective ideas that have inspired me to believe that it could ...

Thank you everybody! All great ideas! Lots to mull over! I especially love the notion that the "Tradition" of Sholem's stories could be the essential conceptual notion. That Tevye is the "story teller", therefore a "real" house, tailor shop, etc... might not be necessary. ------------------------------ ...

I am seriously considering directing Fiddler on the Roof at my school in the coming school year. The show is perfect in so many ways for our very unique environment/community. The biggest issue we have in producing a show like this is the size of our stage and theater. We have a pretty small stage ...

We just did Mother Hicks, by Suzan Zeder this past fall and it went over VERY well. If you can find someone willing to learn sign language, or, even better, find a deaf actor who is fluent in ASL, it can be a very awesome community learning opportunity, etc... Big cast, race neutral, a ton of theatrical ...

Did you know that there is no Education Certification available for Theatre in Pennsylvania? I've known for quite some time and am appalled by this. Does anyone have any experience dealing with their respective state's Department of Education to try and add a certification availability? The ...

Hi Everyone! I am directing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this winter with my high schoolers. So excited because its the first "real" musical that the school is producing. Problem: I teach in a school with a predominantly white student population, and I believe Mitch Mahoney is ...

Hello Everyone! I am directing Suzan Zeder's Mother Hicks this fall with my middle schoolers. The play calls for a Deaf actor to play "Tuc", one of the lead roles. I am wondering what resources anyone who has done this play have employed in order to A) Cast the actor, and B) Educate the middle schoolers ...

Having performed as Charlie Brown in both versions, I find the original to be dated and kind of sleepy these days. The revised show is far more exciting, giving Shroeder a truly great song to lead in Beethoven Day and adding Sally Brown as a character really revitalized the show in its production. It's ...

Thanks for your replies. I am looking for actual per-show numbers. My circumstances are unique and it was/is not an issue of "working for free". It's an issue of understanding how theatre in my school works. And the shows have a direct practical application for what the students are learning in classes. ...

Hi everyone! I was just wondering what I should expect to be paid for extra curricular play/musical direction. I direct 2 shows a year for my school, at this point it is on a volunteer basis. If I have the discussion with my boss about getting paid, what are your thoughts about what I should ask ...

I just directed the Jon Jory adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. It went over very well! Lots of strong female characters. The adaptation really served the novel while remaining theatrically viable for an audience. Lots of creative possibilities. Few set needs. Give it a look. --------------------- ...
