How about vacuuming the delicate costume? If you put some nylon over the tip it will prevent anything loose from getting sucked into the vacuum. I've also had success at home by placing dry rice in a paper bag and shaking the item in the rice. I've cleaned some of my feathered kachinas that way. ...

Have you tried your local and state arts councils? You can sign up for GrantWatch and they'll send you notifications about new grants and funding sources. I've found that to be very helpful, and enlightening! Good luck! Connie Voight Theatre Director, Randolph School 4915 Garth Road Huntsville, ...

We use showtix4u.com. I've been very pleased. It's easy to use and they're pretty easy to get a hold of if you have issues. You can sketch out a map for them, scan it and email it in. They'll translate it and make you a nifty digital version. Or, you can do a simple digital version using Publisher ...

I always read plays in all of my classes, so I try to sneak in plays I'm thinking of doing. That's a great way to get feedback. I also, in between productions, hold after school play reading groups. We read plays they want to do and plays I want to do and discuss them as possibilities in the coming years. ...

I have this same issue, but in a smaller K-12 school! I have done several things to bridge the gap and encourage 8th graders to give us a try. First, almost every year we do a show that involves students in our K-8 division. The grades we involve depend on the show. We've done The Miracle Worker, ...

If you haven't tried using iMovie to make trailers for your school's website or other venues, I highly recommend it! My students and I made this trailer in less than two hours including finding the "mock-up" costumes because ours aren't ready yet. The program is so easy I really think a 4th grader ...

I was wondering how many of your school programs allow kids to Letter in Theatre. If you do, what does your program look like? What are the requirements in order for a student to receive a letter in theatre? Do the kids buy their own jackets or sweaters and you simply award the letter? I'd appreciate ...

We built our own using plywood, 2 x 4's, and pipe. They are very sturdy and you can use plywood to create a shelf under the clothes. We have found this handing for storing costume shoes with the garments. If your interested, I can send you a photo. Connie ------------------------------------------- ...

Hi! There should be some archived photos from ITF 2008. We performed Marigolds in the Kimball that summer. We used a split level set, with the upstairs being about 6' high. The upstairs just went off to an escape. I'll try to dig up what photos we have and send them to you if you'd like. Connie ...

I would suggest the same thing as far as adding a tech theatre component. Can ya'll work on the set, costumes or props? Can you teach them how to do a sound design? Sound Design for a straight play can be fun and it's something they could work on together. Start by reading the play in class, or inviting ...

We are in our 6th year in our new space. These are the things I have learned that I wish I knew 8 years ago! BEG for a self-healing floor. I mean beg HARD. To save money, and because "someone" thought it was pretty, we have a floor that is literally a gym floor. It's blonde oak, it's shiny and the ...

Hi! I think I would start with your local store (Home Depot) and see if they can loan you one. You could give them advertising and also put a sign up in the lobby that the fountain is for sale. We are using a fountain in our fall show, too. We have a little bit more money to spend and I was thinking ...

I was wondering what your average tech budget were for a straight play versus a musical? Tech to include sets, lights, drop rentals, props, costumes, etc. Everything but sound. I'm trying to justify an increase in my budget and am filling my tank with information. Thanks a million! ----------- ...

I am hoping to purchase a "pea soup" type fog machine. I've been looking at the City Theatricals 3300 and a smaller unit actually called "The Pea Souper." Sadly, we do not have a rental outlet in Huntsville any longer, so renting is very difficult. Does anyone have experience with such a unit? Does ...

She asked for money (fund-raised) from a variety of people who spent their money helping to send her on this trip, I would say absolutely not. Those people gave her money, or bought items for her FOR THE TRIP, not for anything else. They certainly didn't give her the money for her own personal use. ...

I've seen it and remember it being a tad raunchy. That said, the only problem I think I'd have down here is the song My Boyfriend. That's really raunchy by our southern standards. Maybe they have alternate lyrics available like they so for Spelling Bee? ------------------------------------------- Connie ...

I don't give out any troupe awards. Those who have at least 100 points and have been faithful and productive troupe members receive honor cords at the end of the year party/inductions. Out school also has an awards day and I present book awards:one for Performance and one for Achievement in Tech Theatre. ...
