  • 1.  Fly system requirements?

I work at a small private school and we have a tiny stage. We are doing Peter Pan this spring and I'd love to find out if it would even be possible to have a fly system. Does anyone have experience using a fly system on a small stage? Any idea how much something like that might cost? Any tips on good companies to use? I have messages out to a couple companies but don't want to just sit back and wait for them...I'd rather be proactive and see if any other directors have experience with these issues..,

    Hi,

I would recommend Flying by Foy and ZFX. Both are highly regarded and competent. One issue that you will likely face is the height of your stage house and whether Peter and the children will actually be able to fly at a reasonable height.

    Thanks,

    Dana

    Hi Lisa

Don't forget about Vertigo!  We are the third American company who specializes in performer flying effects.  We have been in business for 25 years and recently changed our name from Hall & Associates Flying Effects.  We actually specialize in flying systems for non-traditional and low height spaces, so if you can hang lights over your stage, we can fly Peter Pan on your stage.

In addition, we are the ONLY flying company who was founded by, and is owned by, professional educators.  In addition to a flawless safety record, we take the opportunity to educate your students about rigging safety, best practices, and careers in the entertainment industry.

My apologies to the group for the shameless plug, but you should consider all three companies if you are flying people for your production.

    All my best!

There are several previous posts on the pros and cons of flying students.  Search for these:  Flying Effects - Insurance, Flying In Air, and Flying Mary Poppins.

    Best of luck,

You want one of these flying specialists:
    1) Flying by Foy
    2) ZFX
    3) Hall & Associates Flying

If you want to fly, hire the pros. It's expensive, but losing a student during a preventable accident is more expensive as their life is worth more and the injuries are bad too. Just watch Peter Pan Fails on YouTube.

I didn't do flying when I did the straight play years ago when I was still a newbie. We used trampolines, skateboards, and scenery. Next time, if there is one, I'll go with the pros.
