Hello folks!
I am currently teaching a 9 week EL Learners Theatre class that meets everyday.  The mission of the class is to expose English Language Learners to the language through Theatre curriculum.  It so happens that my class are all spanish speakers, but that might change.  I was wondering if anyone has taught this type of class before, has curriculum materials or can point me in the direction of some resources that i can use for the class.  My students (8 total) are really there to build community, have positive experience and access the language.  They have very limited English language skills presently.  Thanks for any offering!

Hello,
I teach middle school and have 2-5 EL students in my classes of 25 every term. I begin with audience etiquette games and group games that require little language, i.e. emotion statues, observation, etc. I then move on to pantomime and use google translate or other Spanish speaking students to translate. In 8 th grade I have a speech presentation unit and ask my Spanish speakers to deliver the speech in Spanish or English. Hope this helps.

I had several ELL students last year in theater class.  I would recommend reader's theater.  There are many wonderful scripts available and a lot of them center on international themes and stories.  I also had them do presentations that they wrote about their own cultures.  One student even presented in Spanish and another translated for her because she had such limited proficiency.  Her parents in the audience were so excited that they got to see her on stage.
