I remember seeing something about online learning modules for technical theatre--or maybe it was theatre safety?--within the last few months, but can't find that information now.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Hi,

There are numerous videos online, I highly recommend Scott Parkers, "Stage Seminars":

    https://www.youtube.com/user/StageSeminars

There is a Theatre Safety learning module created by EdTA and NFHS:

    https://nfhslearn.com/courses/theater-safety

There also will be some materials coming online shortly created by an EdTA workgroup chaired by Donny Covington. The
materials are referred to as a "Technical Theatre Educators Manual".

    Amy-
Great to be looking for training and teaching curriculum in technical theater.   I appreciate Dana's reference to the theater safety course offered on the NFHS website.

I recommend you check the learning and training resources on the USITT website:  https://www.usitt.org/  There are online courses and webinars, plus training and certification opportunities. The USITT eSET testing program provides a means for a student to assess their basic technical production skills and knowledge, https://www.usitt.org/education-training/eset.

A recently published book, Tips & Tricks of the Stagehand is full of basic technical production techniques:
    https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/bt-clark-and-m-hsu/tips-and-tricks-of-the-stagehand/paperback/product-qwj668.html?page=1&pageSize=4

I published a book on theater safety in 2020, Safety and Health for the Stage.  On the book's website are posted theater safety resources you can access for free.
    https://www.routledge.com/Safety-and-Health-for-the-Stage-Collaboration-with-the-Production-Process/Reynolds/p/book/9780815353263

Best wishes for success as you develop and expand the learning opportunities for your students.
    Take care and stay well.

To piggy back on what Bill has suggested, you might be well-served to look at the materials created for the USITT/EdTA venture "Backstage Exam". You can find materials at: https://www.usitt.org/backstage
Backstage is more alligned with high school experiences than the eSET materials.

    Thanks,

    Dana

These online Vectorworks tutorials we recently recommended to me. And I'm so glad I bought them. My skills have grown immensely in a short week and He has a system for you to use it with your students as well.

I have actually been working on a virtual Theatre curriculum is you would like to take a look at it! I'm in the process of making it more user-friendly, but it is very usable. I have been using it for 3 years and am growing it into 3 full MS Theatre programs. I have a HS version, but it isn't nearly close to being finished.

Shoot me a message at joshua.j.watters@gmail.com if you would like to take a peek!

There is a book called the The Backstage Handbook, it has many many terms resources and diagrams, many people swear by it and few live by it. Start here.

I'd also recommend Technical Theater for Nontechnical People book Don't be turned off by its title, it's a great primer on everything tech related.
