    Hello,

I'm really excited about this community and the potential for educators to communicate better and help each other. This is my first challenge for you. I am always looking for quality high school one-act competition shows. I'm looking for the following:

    1) It needs to be 45 - 50 minutes in length (but I'm willing to cut a good full length)

    2) It needs to have 8 - 14 characters (preferably more females than males) with a mainly ensemble cast.

    3) I would like for it to either be cultural, focus on a strong social issue, or stylized. (Last year we had success with a Wiley and the Hairy Man in the style of physical theatre.) It can be spicy but must be high school appropriate.

    4) It can be any genre as long as it's engaging and interesting (even though I am leaning towards a good drama). I REALLY dislike teen angst but I also don't like to produce shows that are too mature for high school age students to handle.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard - uneven casting though...more males than females.  Sam French lists it as a full play....but that is probably because they include another one act in the book

Trilfes - Susan Glaspell.  Probably too small of a case for you but a great play for 2 strong actresses

Murder by Indecision - Daniel O'Donnell

I have this script and I did it quite some time ago....and it was NOT 80 minutes like the site says. This is a large cast and a fun play...and a very simple set since When I did it, I think I had 1 wall with a door and then just used back black curtains with set pieces.
