Professional Productions Online

Can anyone tell me how I might find professional productions online (free) that I can assign my students to watch? Are there any theatres who are giving educational permission to watch any productions they might have in their archival collection? Since most theatres aren't doing live performances, students have limited choices. Thanks.

Thank you, Allen. It's good to know that some theatres are offering some productions that are free during this time.

    Best to you,

I've been getting the Fri.-Sun. NYTimes, and almost every week there's mention of a production available in YouTube. For me it's worth the subscription price. Also, there are free live Broadway shows every Friday at https://www.youtube.com/theshowsmustgoon

Round House Theatre offers free tickets to everything for students - which includes all the virtual things we are doing right now, like the Adrienne Kennedy Festival.   Individual students can sign up through our FreePlay program - https://www.roundhousetheatre.org/On-Stage/Free-Play

if you want a whole class to see a play virtually contact our education department at Education@RoundHouseTheatre.org and they will set you up as a virtual Student Matinee so you get one sign in for the whole class.

Either way, you have access for several month to see the performances.  Its a series of staged readings - but filmed in our space and really quite well done.  There are also support materials with discussions by the artists available.  And Adrienne Kennedy's work is a great way to bring diversity into the classroom and have rich conversations about content.

Feel free to get in touch for more info, or a pass to see if yourself (which is free to educators)

PBS is showing several Broadway and West End shows through their "Great Performances" Series.  In addition to the free broadcasts, the shows are available on their website for a limited time.  For a unit on Commedia, I wanted to show James Corden in "One Man, Two Guvnors" but the language prevented me from doing so.
But I plan to show my Musical Theatre and Dance Students "Holiday Inn" later this month.

I have two go-to websites for online productions.

    (1) The first is a service of TDF (Theatre Development Fund) - they list the ticket price in the description blurb, so it's easy to skim over for the no-charge shows.
    https://www.tdf.org/stages/home

    (2) The second is a website established by Broadway Brands that appears to be a community service. The scope here seems skewed more towards the NYC industry. Ticket prices are not listed, however, which means you'd need to follow through to the host website/platform to learn more info.
    https://curtaintimes.com/

There is some overlap between the two but the focus of each is on very different types of online/virtual theatrical offerings.

A new one coming up (one performance time), professional children's theatre.  It's free, but you do have to RSVP to get a virtual ticket.

I thought I'd plop a link to this off-the-beaten-track performance into this thread.
The 1 hour flies by...it's in the cirque (small 'c') tradition of hand-to-hand acrobats. And strips away the gimmicks to bare bones human strength & balance in an intimate setting.

An Australian company called Gravity & Other Myths. This show (A Simple Space) has toured the world, so perhaps you've seen it.

Free. 58 minutes through Dec 21.
