We are in need of some minor repairs and maintenance on our very basic rigging.  Does anyone have any suggestions for companies that do this work?  We are in the Cleveland, Ohio area.  Thanks.

Try calling the tech department of one of the regional theaters in your area, a performing arts center or one of the local high schools with a performing arts magnet.

But the best place to go is your local chapter of IATSE, the stagehands union. You will get a certified rigging stagehand to insure that everything is safe for your students and the public.

PLASA's Entertainment Technician Certification Program maintains a roster of certified riggers. You can see the Ohio roster here.

Or you can search all certified riggers here. Our friend Steve Nelson says that not every certified rigger will perform inspections, but if you contact one through the PLASA site he or she will be able to refer you to a Cleveland-area company that will. Going through the ETCP program is the best way to be certain you're dealing with qualified technicians.

    Hi,

To follow up Don Corathers reply, here are a few companies that do rigging inspections and repairs:

    The Chicago Flyhouse
    4710 NORTH RAVENSWOOD
    CHICAGO, 60640

    773 728-8455
    Fax:773 728-8445

    Sapsis Rigging, Inc

    233 N Lansdowne Ave
    Lansdowne, PA 19050
    800-727-7471
    215-228-0888
    Fax: 215-228-1786

    Beck Studios
1001 Tech Dr, Milford, OH 45150

Please note, not all ETCP certified riggers are equipped to do inspections and may shy
away from doing an inspection due to potential liability issues. As suggested,
a IATSE stagehand may be able to provide some insights, it is unlikely that they
would be equipped to do an inspection.

The United States Institute for Theatre Technology has initiated a rigging inspection/safety
    program. The link is here:

    Best wishes,

    Dana
