I’m searching for a comedy for a high school cast of twenty or so. Need parts for at least fourteen girls and six boys.

    Thanks!

In 2009 I did "You Didn't Say It Was Haunted." It was such fun and the audience loved it. Be sure to keep it in the 70's when it was written so that there is no question about why the kids can't call for help. https://www.samuelfrench.com/p/9429/you-didnt-say-it-was-haunted

My Advanced Drama class had a lot of fun putting on Bestest Bed Time Stories: https://www.playscripts.com/play/3117
It's a short two act play (which means intermission and concessions!) and it has lots of parts.

I have recommended this before, but Stardust by Walter Kerr is one of my favorite big-cast comedies.  The student ensemble is expandable.  You'll need to keep it in the 1950s.  It is a hilarious send-up of our interpretations of Stanislavsky's work.

Hi!  M*A*S*H is wildly popular!  And the students have such fun being in it.  The writers use the movie version and make it more appropriate for family audiences and it is such fun and so funny!  Look it up!  https://www.dramaticpublishing.com/m-a-s-h

    Hi Donnie -

We did a show a few years back called "Shakespeare in Hollywood" authored by Ken Ludwig. Basically, it's about Oberon and Puck leaving the palace in Athens for the forest when Puck makes a wrong turn, and they end up in Hollywood on the set of the 1935 movie "A Midsummer Nights Dream."  Puck is up to his old tricks and in general throws a monkey wrench or two into the whole mess.  Lots of room for adding extras and it is a heck of a good romp. It was originally commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Some roles could be played by either a man or woman. We made puck a girl, and added two additional fairy screw-ups.  There are many opportunities for sight gags and such.

Best of luck with what ever production you choose.

    Best,

    Mack

Thank you so much for this wonderful suggestion. This sounds like something a high school ensemble could have a lot of fun with. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

We did The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon last year and the kids had a blast with it. It's very goofy and improv based so you can take it a lot of different ways. The cast can be easily expanded/doubled. I believe we ended up with like 23 kids in the show. Plus, there's a lot of different ways to do any of the tech elements that wouldn't be too difficult

    Donnie,

You Can't Take it With You is one of the most popular produced high school shows and is very funny.
