I hope New York City is recovering from the storm the ITO brought this weekend! We went in and had a WONDERFUL time.
The first day started off with working at the Broadway Cares office with Joe Norton and staff explained to us, more in depth, what Broadway Cares is and what it supports! They keep up great functions and events during the year. Believe me when I say they are BEYOND interesting *cough cough* Broadway Bares *cough cough*.
Then the ITO got to go see Pippin and meet Kyle Dean Massey! Gahhhhhh!!! Tears were flowing. I promise!
MOVING ON! Day 2: If we thought we were busy that day, boy did we did underestimate the intensity!
Back to the Broadway Cares Office went! There we spoke to Marion Combs about how different fundraising tactics for Festival! Super sweet man and he’s from Georgia! #shoutouttime
Mr. Jason Daunter had breakfast with us and told us about his experiences surviving in New York. Some good, some bad, all triumphant! If you ever get a chance to meet him don’t pass it up! He has experience like none other and he’s basically a superstar there!
That night we went to see “The Country House” starring Blythe Danner! Absolutely stunning show! Ever heading to New York to see shows? See a straight play. It just brought me back to the honest beauty of theatre.
Last day: Oh, the sadness. I didn’t want to leave! This was the last day, yes, but we had so much to do before leaving.
Broadway Cares day( AKA Christmas) had come! The International Thespian Society table had been set up and we were open for business! The search for Thespian Alumni became an on-going thing. Everytime we found one we’d clap for them, loudly, at our table. We also raised almost $3,500 selling Play Bills, scripts, conductor scores, posters, and books. It was an amazing day and I was so happy to be a part of a great cause!
That night as a great ending to a great trip we went to see Matilda the Musical. Those children left it ALL on the stage! I cried four different times because they were all so amazing!
I’m forever in the depth of EdTA for giving us these opportunities. They don’t have to, but they do. They give so much of themselves to the students they teach. You all are forever appreciated! Thanks!
