  • 1.  Wireless DMX hookup

Hi all! Gearing up for our musical in may. We have a lighting grid that is basically non-functional with a board and can only be controlled via dimmer. We want to purchase a few instruments to hang with a DMX hookup. Does anyone have experience plugging an instrument into a wireless DMX hookup so we can control the light without using a board or the big dimmer controls? Is this possible? Something like the Donner Wireless??

    TIA!

There are lots of options, but this is my favorite: https://www.citytheatrical.com/products/electronics/multiverse-wireless-dmx-rdm/multiverse-show-baby

Why is your current system nonfunctional, can the system be serviced, if so you or the district should have the system repaired.

your comments confuse me a bit... is the system nonfunctional or just big and scary to use?

This is a topic we see across the High School Level...Either the systems are not properly working, to which a service call can be made to local supply service centers to get up and working.  OR, sometimes as theater educators our primary focus was performance, directing or just basic requirements, not technical theater. For these educators I recommend requesting a system training session to educate you and some students on system and console operation.

Your system may be old and not function to meet your needs, or may not work, having a technician in to look at it might help in getting your system on the upgrade schedule for the school or district.

The wireless system you are looking at uses a club/DJ type console and is not practical for theater applications of running a show, based on the vintage of your big system you may already have the capabilities for running LED fixtures or the ability to easily add LED fixtures to the system.

Without knowing what your light board and dimming system is it is hard to provide proper guidance.

I wish you luck, i you have more information please post here or you can privately reply to this comment.
