Wednesday Wisdom on Friday from Sage Emeritus

I apologize for not posting on Wednesday. I actually had something ready but in light of the recent event in Uvalde, I rethought my post.  As we are all moving into summer vacation, I challenge each of you to reflect on this past year.  Not on your successes or failures but the opportunities you had for self-care!  If you say I didn’t have time for that,  start today and make time!  Teaching is exhausting and we all need opportunities to do things just for ourselves.  Take a walk, get a pedicure, exercise, make your favorite meal!  Life is short and we all need to do a better job of taking care of ourselves.  Consider thinking about personal boundaries!  Maybe make a list of things you can do differently in the Fall that will allow you more time for yourself.   Maybe one day a week you are going to end rehearsal early or better yet not have rehearsal.  Maybe plan to use some “personal days”. We make time for what is important and actually scheduling personal time will help you prioritize yourself.  Sound too selfish?  Good! You deserve it and with the time we all put into our students, schools, programs and families, it is time to give yourself some grace and make time for you! I hope you all have a wonderful break!
