Open Forum

I am planning my second show ever for my high school students for next Spring. We are doing Once on This Island, and our school is majority black, even with a strong Haitian population, so the show is a good fit. I am wondering in the context of public school, what is good practice for using an accent? It could enhance the production, but on the other hand, could come across not great if done poorly. My background is in music education, so I do not really know the best pedagogical decision here. (Additionally, I am white and do not see it being a good idea trying to teach the accent myself.)
