    Hi!

    I am looking to amp up my leadership in my troupe for next year. I have all new officers and want to start their year off successfully! Does anyone here ever have a summer officer retreat? I've never held one before and would like to see what others do to foster leadership and ownership in their troupes.

    I meet with officers three times a summer. Three hours each. yes, it is partially social time and team bonding but it is also laying out all of hopes and dreams for the coming year.

    We make schedules and plans. Set high expectations.

    And then, honestly, we mostly forget about them once we start the school year and get busy actually making theatre. But we try.

    "the Best laid plans...."  so true! I always start the year with a plan for what we'll do each meeting, and feel lucky if we get even a half of it done!

    At my previous school, I held a 6 hour-ish retreat with a lunch break. We used the morning to identify areas of priority and the rest of the time drafting strategies, timelines, and other such things.

    AZ Thespians has been holding a 3 day leadership camp/retreat since 1989 in July every year high up at Camp Shadow Pines (out of the heat!).  For info I'd suggest contacting:  linda.phillips@arizonathespians.com

    I suggest you contact Linda Phillips at:  linda.phillips@arizonathespians.com for more info.  The AZ Thespians have been holding a leadership retreat/camp since 1989 in July.  I was state Thespian director when it was first established.  Hope this helps.  Steve Halper
