    Hello Theatre folk!

Last summer I started an MFA in Playwriting at Hollins University in Roanoke. I loved my summer at Hollins and I have been looking forward to going back since I pulled out of campus last July. The program is intense and takes place over 6 weeks during the summer for 3, 4, or 5 summers. I was really able to take those six weeks and focus on myself as a student and loved the feeling of being a student again. I have two other master's degrees in the most random of things, but I really love this program.
I wanted to take a minute and invite you to investigate the program also known as "Hollins Playwright's Lab."   In the Playwright's Lab we work together with actors, directors, producers, and our fellow writers to truly understand the meaning of "new work." The faculty come from all over to support the creation of new work. Remember every play you have ever read or seen was a new play at some point.
You don't have be in love with playwriting to benefit from some time in the graduate program at Hollins and the Playwright's Lab.  In addition to the MFA in Playwriting, The Playwright's Lab offers:
    • M.A. in New Play Development
    • Certificate in New Play Directing
    • Certificate in New Play Performance
    • Certificate in New Play Dramaturgy
I would love to have more teachers or high school/middle school directors in the program. It fits so nicely into our teacher schedule, and I changed by pedagogy a bit upon my return.
I would love to talk to more about Hollins and the graduate program. So just reach out. The real guru is Todd Ristau-- the program's creator and director. He would love to talk with you too. You can reach Todd at tristau@hollins.edu . This isn't a paid advertisement, and no one asked me to do this. I just believe that theatre teachers would benefit from the program-- or even just a summer exploring in beautiful Virginia!

    Thanks,
