  • 1.  stage floor and black box paint

    Posted 01-08-2023 21:43
    Hello.

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed, but does anyone have an idea of the best type of paint for a stage floor (black), and a black box?

I just started at this school and for the last 7 years the stage was used as the painting station.  It's in rough shape.  Also, I've been given the ok to convert my classroom into a black box, so any ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Rosco Labs makes Tough Prime Black which is good, also a paint called Cote All from Diamond Vogel

use a matte or flat paint to reduce light bounce

    Good Morning,

We use Sherwin Williams Super paint in semi-gloss. I could not convince our school system's paint department to go with flat. It works, it's not too reflective, and my school system paid for it!

For me, once I told them I would paint the stage- they delivered the paint. For them to paint I would have had to wait two months.

I swear by Rosco #6055 Black Tough Prime. I would purchase a 5 gallon bucket to paint our main stage and black box floors every year. It's a paint that holds up well and has a hard surface, which absorbs light so there is no bounce from lighting instruments.

It's not cheep, going for $310 plus tax, at least in the Seattle area. Still I would highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed.
