    Hi everyone!

We are doing She Kills Monsters.  We have a fight choreographer, weapons, and all monsters taken care of EXCEPT Tiamat.  Any leads on sales/rentals/awesome ideas?

    Thanks!
    Matt

We found  dragon patterns- almost oragammi style on line and constructed 5 dragon heads out of heavy cardboard. Painted and detailed them. Mounted them on poles. So, essentially giant puppets. Very effective cohoreography. Worked great.

    Hi Matt--
SKM is a fabulous and incredible show! Our best and most controversial show ever!!! I had a parent who tried to get me fired because of it-- it was INCREDIBLE and sooooo very worthwhile!!!! We staged in in April 2019. For Tiamat, we did as Scott Keys mentions, found patterns and created heads from cardboard, then decorated them using the text as our guide. Instead of posting them on poles, our Tiamat was made of the 5 monsters Agnes the AssHatted kills: Kaliope, Lillith, Orcus, Steve, and of course, Tilly. (We color coordinated the costumes of those characters with their Tiamat head.) We wanted to show that Agnes had to "kill" the expectations both good and bad that were keeping her average.   We also had an incredible Beholder costume and the gelatinous cube was fun to make too!!  I have pictures, notes, and costumes for sale if you are interested! Break legs!!!

    Hi Caroline!

I hope you're still a part of this community! I'm currently trying to build our Beholder and having a hard time. Would you happen to have a DIY or something you used for your design?

    Thank you so much!

Hillary, I was pretty pleased with how our Beholder turned out.  The students wrapped a little more than half of a big exercise ball with strips of muslin, soaking all but the first layer in glue and water before applying--basically paper mache with muslin instead of paper.  They painted it in shades of green, and then glued on pipe covers for the eye, mouth, and teeth.  We glued on a skirt the same color as the green in the cheerleader costumes

with a hula hoop sewn in the bottom edge.  Here is my only picture in regular lighting.

That is so clever! I love the skirt idea!

We've come up with another idea using cardboard but I'm definitely going to mentally add this to my plan c list!

    Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Caroline,

This post made me laugh out loud! I bet many of us some pretty amazing stories about over-zealous parents trying to get us booted out the proverbial door! I used to keep a file labeled "hate mail"...it kept me level! Thanks for sharing and godspeed with your theatrical endeavors.

    Respectfully,

    Garry (AKA, The Dream Crusher!)

Sonoma State University in Northern California has an amazing one that we rented, created by a woman who worked with the Muppets.  It was pretty expensive, and I don't know if it travels, but you should also check out productions in your area to see if there's one nearby.
