Has anyone done the 90 minute one act for Young Wizards version, and is it streamlined down or is it just shortened and without crude language? What tech is involved? I'm going to order the script, but before I spend my own money on it I would like to know how tech heavy it is.

If I recall correctly,  it is still extremely tech heavy. Lots of lighting cues, lots of sound effects, lots of music, lots of props.

Puffs is very tech heavy. The Young Wizards version just eliminates the bad language. The props are insane. It's also NOT ninety minutes. Our show was fast-paced, and we always ran at around two hours with that version.

Hi Angie! The length and tech requirements are the same. The One Act version removes the intermission (but is the same length as the standard Two Act version), and the Young Wizards version tweaks the language and some situations to be a bit friendlier for younger audiences and performers.

We did the young wizards version last year. It was a big hit but extremely tech-heavy  - the props and sound are especially extensive. I recommend purchasing the sound design package from a professional designer who's already done the show - which we did.  Even so, it was still a tricky show to tech with lots of intricately timed cues. It takes a skilled stage manager but is totally worth it!

The show will run two hours. It's a lot of fun but as others have said, the tech aspect is a lot.  I strongly recommend buying the sound used in the original production. You first purchase the music from Brian Metolius and  then the playwright, Matt Cox, will send you a file with all the sound cues including music in a file once you pay his fee. It's totally worth it. Both Brian and Matt were very helpful and responsive when I had questions for them. Start practicing with the sounds in QLAb in rehearsal as soon as you get the file. It will save you a lot of time in tech rehearsals.

We did Puffs this past fall.  To be perfectly honest, this was possibly one of the most tech heavy shows we have done.  We had more props for this show than anything I have ever been involved with, and the costuming was a bear but oh so much fun.  Really, the show is worth the work.  I agree with the other poster who recommended purchasing the sound files.  So, challenging? Yes!  But it is also the most fun we have ever had doing a show.
