  • 1.  Plays with two actors to perform for Elementary students

    Posted 08-27-2025 14:56

I have two students in an Introduction to Acting and Backstage class that typically has a final project of a play that is developed to performance level and is performed for Kindergarten to second graders. This year the challenge is I only have two students - both are female. One wants to act. The other does not. I am planning to act so we can do a two or more person play with doubling.  Any suggestions for scripts? It needs to have the possibility of an interesting set, costumes, props so the non-actor can have something to do. Thank you for your help.

Take a look at 'Mariposa/Butterfly' by Sandra Fenichel Asher and Jose Casas. Published by Dranatic Publishing. It's a very sweet two-character play for K-2.  2 actors plus one puppeteer. The two characters can be played by any gender. It's a bilingual play, so you do need one actor who is a fluent/native Spanish speaker. I'm doing it this semester.
