Great news out of New York! A key piece of legislation that strengthens arts education requirements has taken a big step forward:
New York Senate Bill 6318 Passes Senate Education Committee
- This bill requires instruction in arts education-including dance, music, theater, media arts, visual arts, and studio arts-to be incorporated into the curriculum for all public school students in grades K-12.
- Certified educators would teach these subjects, ensuring high-quality arts experiences across the state.
- The companion bill is Assembly Bill 6490, which needs similar support to move forward.
Action Needed
If you're in New York-or know colleagues who are-please encourage them to contact their representatives and voice support for this legislation. Only New York advocates are eligible to participate directly, so it's especially important to spread the word to your networks in the state.
