  • 1.  Need suggested Latinx, Hispanic and African American performances and plays that are suitable to read/show to high school students

    Posted 11-05-2024 13:07

I am a Field Supervisor for CSUEB online Theatre credential program. Asking for a student teacher/intern whose school has all Latinx, Hispanic and African American students enrolled in his Drama classes. The student teacher asked for recommendations for plays for reading that his students will relate to and that his admin will approve of. Likewise suitable film clips of suitable relatable plays and musicals.
    Thanks for any input.

Zoot Suit, Anna in the Tropics, Raisin in the Sun, Fences, for a start! Great scenes in all.

I can speak for some Latinx recommendations - I would recommend LOS VENDIDOS by Luis Valdez for a short satire, explore some Miguel Piñero - specifically his poetry and film clips from the movie, and there's a wonderful play called SHELTER by Marissa Chibas.

I was entranced watching REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES by Josefina Lopez at Int'l Festival (female Mexican immigrants work in a small sewing factory in L.A. in 1987).
