I am planning to do a murder mystery this fall. I have read many and had thought Murder on the Orient Express by Ken Ludwig was the one but re-looking at it I am concerned that the set is beyond us this year. I am the director for a high school program that has shrunk since 2020 . We are rebuilding,  I am hoping to have at least nine actors who will be mostly female. I recently finished Beware the House on Haunted Hill which I also thought would work but I am not sure I really like it. Has anyone done either of these shows with high schoolers?  I recently came across Peter Gordon's plays-  Death by Fatal Murder... Has anyone done his plays? Thoughts? An other murder mysteries I am missing?  Would love to find one with one set!  Thank you  Cathy

My favorites that I have directed with students include: And Then There Were None (Agatha Christie) and Night Watch (Lucille Fletcher).  Both are box sets so relatively easy.  I completely double cast Night Watch and you could do the same with And Then There Were None. If you need a larger cast and are looking for an audience participation piece look at Night of January 16th (Ayn Rand) or Murder's in the Heir (Billy St. John - Pioneer)

Love a good mystery - Break a Leg!

We had a lot of fun with The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. Unit set...with some surprises and a bevy of fun characters. We cast a male as Helga and they were a hoot. Lots of great options.

    Best,

Besides the best-selling Murder's in the Heir, Pioneer Drama has one of the best collections of murder mysteries anywhere, with more than 50 to choose from, both with  and without audience participation. Other top-sellers include Murder Mystery at the Murder Mystery, Mystery on the 518,  A Family Reunion to Die For, and How to Host a Murder Mystery Dinner Party.
