Hello!  

I am directing Little Women, the Musical in the Fall.  We've already cast the show and done our first read through (May 20th) and the show begins rehearsal on August 13th.  The students have been assigned to be completely off book by the time they return to school for both scenes and songs.  This group can handle that and both students and parents signed an agreement.  We did this because we only have 6 weeks to put this show up.  We have a cast of 11.  For those of you who have done this show, would you be willing to share your rehearsal schedule for the show, your experience of the show, whatever you found uniquely challenging, etc.?  Given such a short process, for us anyway, I want to be as maximally prepared and efficient as possible.  We are going to rehearse Mon-Fri 3:15-6pm and Saturdays 10-3pm.  We are also going to build the set and collect the props over the summer.  Thank you for any insight you would be willing to share!

Hi there!

Its definitely doable.  I think I had 10 weeks, but no Saturdays.

My calendar is attached (this was from last Spring).  Everything that is a shade of pink was for Little Women.  The different shades indicate either music focused rehearsals, choreo focused rehearsals or staging/ running sections/technical rehearsals.

We had the biggest challenge getting our kite contraptions to work- and a lot of our flying scenery.  But the story is so beautiful and the music so fun that the kids had no trouble learning the story. 

I also included a scene/location/character breakdown if that is helpful.

Little Women is my favorite musical we've ever done.  Any chance you are going to be at ITF this summer?  Our production of Little Women goes up on Tuesday, June 24! :) :)
