  • 1.  Looking for Alice in Wonderland, large cast, high school, 90-120 min. with cohesive flow

    Hello Everyone,

I am considering two different non musical plays this year.  One is Alice in Wonderland.  I am looking for a play that can have a large cast (maybe 10 leads or supporting with up to 30 or more kids as ensemble as needed) and may allow me to use kids down to age 10 or so, but the focus is on the high school students as all the leads.  The bigger the group the merrier. We had 54 performers on stage when we did Mermaid and it really makes for a great audience.

I am concerned as the few versions I have seen or come across don't have really a good flow or narrator pulling the scenes together cohesively.  I would like the version easy to follow and make sense to the audience.

So, do you have any recommendations for a version of Alice in Wonderland  with a runtime between 90 min. to 2 hrs. that has large cast, good flow, and would be great for high school students to perform that is not a musical?  I would like to find a version to consider.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Jerry,

We did Brainerd Duffield's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland in 2013.  It did not have a narrator, but I think the audience was still able to follow it.  It also allowed for a ton of flexibility with casting and creativity in staging.

If you have questions or would like to discuss it further, let me know.  It's been a while since I've done it, but I'd be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have about it.

Best of luck with your production!
    Jen

I suggest you look at Alice @ Wonderland by Jonathan Yukich (Pioneer Drama Service). It's a crisply told story with a large, flexible cast, putting a 21st century in a traditional Wonderland.

Look at Jason Pizzerella's version. Very close to the book. I think it is with Playscripts. My students loved it.

Thanks for the recommendation, Kelly! My one-act version of Alice in Wonderland is at Playscripts, but I also have a flexible full-length version that's available at Stage Partners.
Let me know if you'd like a free perusal, Jerry. But you can also read it all online for free:
