Have any of you used an Intimacy Coordinator for your high school productions?   What was your experience and were the actors receptive?

We are working on LOST GIRL for our competition this year and it includes some integral kissing scenes.  I would like to make my actors as comfortable with these as possible.

    Any advice is welcome.

I have not used them in the past, but there is a growing concern in the industry for Community Theaters to use them where any physical interaction is required to allow for the comfort of the performers. We all have different levels  of comfort and this should be addressed  with each performer individually, also prior to auditions all parts that may have intimacy from holding hands or touching and above  should be reviewed during the auditions to make sure the performer is well aware of the pending interactions and that there is an acceptable  stop if things become uncomfortable.  The intimacy Coordinator acts as a choreographer for the production and when used should also be compensated for their time.

I have used an intimacy coordinator. It is a somewhat common practice in these parts.

My students were totally receptive to the idea and to her input. She was really their advocate and they appreciated it.

One wrinkle was that our coordinator said she was not allowed to work directly with anyone under 18 so she had to teach me to ever see the intimacy call every day.

I highly recommend it for the comfort of your students.

    Hi,

I've done several digital trainings with Theatrical Intimacy Education (https://www.theatricalintimacyed.com/) and being able to specifically choreograph work on stage with my 7-12th grade students has made everyone feel more comfortable. I'd absolutely recommend their "Best Practices" and the "Working With Minors" workshops.
I'm also happy to answer any questions you might have, so please feel free to reach out to me directly if you'd like!
