  • 1.  How to get the Thespian Society recognized as an Honor Society

    Posted 08-14-2024 09:21

Hello, I'm trying to get honor cords for our seniors this year and our school only allows cords for school approved Honor Society's. So I'm trying to see how to go about proving or displaying that the Thespian Society is a legit Honor Society. I personally know it is but how can I show our principal/ school board that it is a real Honor Society.

    Hey Joel,

I would recommend reaching out to the membership services team and also your chapter you are in for resources to show your principal/school board that Thespians is an honor society.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for reaching out! I'm glad to hear that you're looking to honor your seniors with Thespian cords. The International Thespian Society (ITS) is indeed recognized as an honor society. Founded in 1929, ITS is the only organization to honor secondary school students for outstanding achievement in theatre. It provides lifelong recognition of students' dedication to the performing arts.

To help demonstrate this to your principal or school board, you could present the following:

    1. National Affiliation: The International Thespian Society is a division of the Educational Theatre Association, a national organization that has been supporting theatre educators and students for decades.
    2. Charter Certificate: If your troupe has its original charter certificate, this can serve as proof of its official status as part of the ITS.
    3. Honor Society Criteria: ITS honors students who demonstrate high levels of commitment and achievement in theatre. Students must earn a certain number of points, through participation in performances, technical work, and other theatre-related activities, to qualify for membership.
    4. Recognition at the National Level: Many schools across the country and beyond recognize ITS as a legitimate honor society, and it is widely accepted as such by colleges and universities.

You can reach out to the membership team directly by emailing members@schooltheatre.org if you need anything further.
