Hey everyone! Happy Summer! I am a new theatre teacher, just finishing up my second year as an assistant director, and it is likely that I will be moving on to be a head director of a high school program very soon. I am feeling relatively unprepared so I want to use the summer to get some reading done.

Please recommend me what books/texts have been most helpful for you as a theatre teacher and director! I am looking for the following-

• Books that go over the essentials of acting
• Books that go over the essentials of tech productions
• Books that aid in the classroom (lessons, workshops, activities, etc)
• Plays that are great for productions or classroom reading

I know this is super broad, but please give me any recs you have! It would help a lot.

Games for Actors and Non-Actors by Augusto Boal (trans. Adrian Jackson)

Digital Theatre+ (subscription service with tons of lesson plans, resources, and plays to watch)

Backwards and Forwards: a Technical Manual for Reading Plays by David Ball
