A teal gem often forgotten in the musical yheatre murder mystery genre is The Mystery of Edwin Drood based on the Dickens unfinished novel with a Rupert Holmes script and score. ( Rupert Holmes of "Pina Colada Song" fame). The audience votes on several factors and participates in other ways throughout (booing the villain for example). The show is great fun.

Subject: Finding a Large Cast / Audience Interactive Murder Mystery
Last year we did a show titled The Replica. It was set in a museum and was a murder mystery musical. The premise is that the Director is found dead on the desk in the office and everyone is trying to solve the mystery left in a note they find on the computer screen.
All of the artifacts, paintings, any objects in the museum were created by our school's art classes. The audience was encouraged to tour the museum before the show and during the first intermission. We had a scene in the show where the tour guides call up the audience members who were given special tickets (the young children in the audience) and give a guided tour of the museum, so basic scripting, but lots of improv there. We also set it up so that the front desk and other offices are visible the entire time with workers.
The note sends them on a hunt for clues in the information cards on the museum. Large flexible cast and a great collaboration opportunity with art classes since every item in the museum is a "replica" of a famous museum piece.
It was my response to students' requesting "a murder mystery musical that includes dinosaurs."
Email me if you would like to read the script.

Subject: Finding a Large Cast / Audience Interactive Murder Mystery
I teach an Improvisational Theatre class, and each year we produce an audience interactive mystery. The last two years we've used Mysteries by Moushey that include a clue hunt. We've already produced "The Great High School Whodunnit" and "Trouble at the Talent Show." I have about 30 students in the class and need something that includes some scripted text and also the opportunity for improvised audience interaction.
Any suggestions??
