Hello, Everyone! Apart from drama games, soundtrack of your "theater life", karaoke parties, movie musical / play watching, what are some of your fun end of the year activities or projects for high school students?

We had our students prepare a short performance for our feeder elementary school to try to inspire future theatre recruits.

    Two that I do are:

Create a jukebox musical. Students write out a synopsis of the story, then choose related songs. They have to have certain songs such as an I Want song and a love song.

Propose a show for next year and cast it with returning students. They have to choose a show that would be feasible for the program to do next year. They then need to cast the lead and supporting characters. If they choose a musical, I tell them not to worry too much about a person's singing ability - cast more for personality and acting ability.

II've attached what I give to students. Feel free to use or alter in any way!

I'm creating the JukeBox Musicals with my 4th and 5th. I have added a storyboard component and have my students collaborate and direct their musicals with the casting I choose from another group. This could go on forever:) And it is good critical thinking/collaborative work!

One of my favorite end-of-year projects is called "My Life as a Broadway Play" which I learned about in a virtual workshop years ago. Students create a poster and pitch a play inspired by their own lives, but they can turn it into any genre they want. The more dramatic and theatrical, the better!

I've had students turn normal family vacations into spy thrillers, math tests into horror plays, and school rivalries into westerns etc. We display the posters all around campus, and the entire school really enjoys them!
