  • 1.  Drama for cast of 7 males and 10 females

    Posted 04-03-2025 17:01

    Hello All,

I am back to a big production class for next year and have more males than I'm used to having.  Looking for a good drama that has parts for 7 males and 10+ females.  I've gotten some ideas from the major publishers but not real excited by anything so far.  Would greatly appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks!

    John

    Hi John -

I'd encourage you to check out my play Rosaline Wrecked It All - https://www.youthplays.com/play/rosaline-wrecked-it-all-by-stephen-kaplan-677 (8 females, 5 males, 7 any gender (fully gender-flexible with an unlimited optional ensemble). I wrote it initially for my own students as I had difficulty finding a large cast play that worked for them. It's a modern day riff on the events of Romeo and Juliet with everyone blaming Rosaline for what happened because she didn't go to the party where R&J met. It's now being produced at schools around the country and I'd love for you to take a look. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

    Best,

    Stephen

    Hi, John,

    I have a full-length play, called Feeble-Minded White Trash, that features 10 m and 10w. Here's a synopsis.

During the late 1920s in rural southern Virginia, Hattie Clawson, an illiterate laundress with three illegitimate children, one of them Black, hasn't heard of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes or his majority opinion in the landmark case Buck vs. Bell. But she will feel the impact of the Court's decision when the Commonwealth of Virginia requires her to have an involuntary sterilization, severs her parental rights, and takes her children away. What will she and her children do to survive in a society preoccupied with race and class? Will the stigma ever go away? All told, 33 states allowed forced sterilization as an outcome of the eugenics movement that swept our country during the 20th century; 65,000 Americans were affected, 85% of them were women.

You might want to consider "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani.
